@Victor True words spoken. With the only minor exception that this is Amazon with one-day prime delivery, which tends to be quite trustworthy. Seems they often have some 'outlier' prices in Spain on Amazon, I believe it also has to do with their unique liquor taxation.

I'm done with Talisker The 18 was great when it was under 120$ The 12 was ok/variable at $70. The Storm is a hot mess (even after experiments with air). Take my advice or leave it....but the Storm is not worth a Whisky Conn's time. It just isn't very good, and I'm going to spend 20$ more for a 10 that may be just as bad.

@Jonathan - Well, I'm not really an administrator

When you type a post, for the next 15 minutes you can edit it.

There is a little icon next to the time of the post and if you click on that it opens the post again.

Then you can edit it, as I have, and even add a photo, as I have (in this case of my original post)

i wrote to the admins. Thanks for letting me know, though. I wasn't aware of the 15 minute rule. So it goes.

Both last night and tonight, Laphroaig 10 @ 43% ABV. I agree with others who have commented recently that it tastes lighter or watered down more so than in the past. Still enjoyable. It just doesn’t have the “kick” that it used to have.

Bruichladdich The Black Art 2.2, 21 yo, 1989-2010, 49.7% ABV. This is just about the end of my supply of this one. Complex, complex, complex.

An Evan Williams White Label BiB - Opened this a few weeks back now and it was 'angry'! The complete antithesis of my last bottle which was rich, complex and full of flavour from start to finish.

I've decanted it several times now and left the lid off overnight a few times and it has improved but I don't think this is ever going to live up to the last bottle, sadly. There's too much of the sappy/bitter notes that simply take over the palette; but the nose has improved offering some cherry and fudge notes under the nip.

Damn you batch variation . . .

Before dinner I killed my A’Bunadh batch 53. Now, after dinner, I’m sipping some Glenfarclas 105. Its flavour profile and texture reminds me of Irish Single Pot Still...

Friend of my wife was over, and it was getting late and rather than drive back home she's staying over and her kids are having a sleepover. She has had a few malts but is a relative newbie. So I offered her what I think is one of the most approachable premium single malts I have open...Amrut single (bourbon) cask. It is working out well...

Bonus dram. at midnight we decided to pour a second small dram. A'Bunadh batch 49. Didn't finish it by 130 so I poured my remaining 15 cc into my "could not finish vial" for another day.

@RianC, Johnnie Walker Black Label from the era ending in the early 1980s is superb. There is a fabulous sherry influence in it which has not been seen in Johnnie Walker Black Label for decades. Also it was at that time bottled at 43.4% ABV. When @Nock, the peathead-cum-intensity-buff sampled 30 whiskies one day at my sister's house, the one which left the strongest impression on him was the 1970s Johnnie Walker Black Label. He said it "haunted" him, it was so good, and his favourite stuff is the max-peat max-ABV Islay whisky.

I have not been able to enjoy my Weller 12 at all. It has not improved in 6 months, so I’ve opened my Old Weller Antique 107 hoping it’s better. I want to taste the OWA solo before I start vatting some “poor man’s pappy”.

5 years ago 0

@OdysseusUnbound

After one drink of OWA, I’m relieved. It’s terrific. No cough syrup flavour to be found. Lots of toffee, vanilla, cherry, and toasted marshmallow, in that order. Not super complex, but very pleasant and balanced. No water necessary, even at 107 Proof.

Well colour me surprised! Vatting OWA and Weller 12 in a 60/40 ratio yields great results! No more cough syrup. Huzzah !

@OdysseusUnbound, I am one of the relatively few who have always preferred Old Weller Antique 107 to Weller 12 yo. That's mostly a function of liking the higher intensity at 53.5% ABV.

Sunday evening. About to play HQ Trivia winner take all $25 k jackpot with no intention of winning. They are now advertising Bud light.... go figure.

Anyway, after the kids are in bed I'll have a plethora of documents to go through. I will enjoy the experience more because of a generous pour of Bruichladdich 10 YO 46%.

I think I'm ready to think about reviewing it. This one has evaporated quickly since early summer with 2/3 remaining.

@OdysseusUnbound, as ridiculous as it may seam, six months is not long enough for an open bottle of Weller 12 to bloom. An open bottle from12/25/2017 is not yet ready; however a bottle from September 2017 has evolved sufficiently to be enjoyable. They will both continue to improve with time.

@OdysseusUnbound

@paddockjudge Well I may have to develop some patience then. I enjoyed the OWA on its own, so perhaps I’ll just sip that when the bourbon hankering creeps up. Or maybe I’ll open my Stagg Jr Batch 9....
