Smelled like crap, tasted like fruity nothingness.

@BlueNote - That sounds lovely - can't beat fresh sea food!
I had some oysters with a splash of Ardbeg (and some with Tobasco) on Saturday. Yummers!

@RianC did you splash the Ardbeg on the oysters or into the glass?
I once read an article recommending the Laddie Classic on oysters Sadly, we'll never know.

@MadSingleMalt I haven’t bought a Dalmore since they started charging Macallan-like prices. Their overpriced 12 year old is woeful compared to Glenfaclas’s reasonably priced 12. We stopped in at the distillery last year. Their so called visitor centre is about the size of my wife’s walk in closet. They had nothing in miniatures, their Glencairns were half again as much as all but Macallan’s and they weren’t particularly friendly. Although I didn’t ask, as I was driving, there was no offer of any tasting. Bought a pin and left.

@Nozinan - Just a couple of drops into the oyster - I've tried other peaty whiskys on them but Ardbeg 10 is a perfect match (for me, anyways).

@Nozinan I am wondering if you implied before that Ace spirits is shipping orders to Canada?

@MadSingleMalt Where I work, any grade less than 70/100 is a failing grade. You gave the Famous Grouse a failing grade! (I kind:never tasted the stuff, though I hear that the Black Grouse is worth at least a taste.) tasting.

@RianC had a few tasty Ouzos while traveling. Wish I could remember what was was....I just know that it can be quite good.

@OdysseusUnbound My sense is that it has to do with the taste profile. The wheat bourbon folk seem to love sugary sweetness in their whiskey. Even at 15 years, that still seems to be the taste profile, as wonderful as it is. I'm on a list for BTAC, but if the (probably impossible) bottles on the list arrive, there are whiskies I'd prefer. Unless I snag a Stagg, Or even a Handy. I'll sell it for a few dollars more than I paid but wouldn't drink such over-hyped whiskey..My whisk(e)y fat a local purveyor tried to sell me on Stagg Jr above pricie . As Martin Sheen said in Badlands when threatened by his girlfriend's father, "No Sir, I can't allow that." I'd rather overpay for any Kilchoman than overpay for a substandard BTAC

@Jonathan Just read it over before you press submit. You are your own best editor. But as @Nozinan says, you have a second chance up to 15 minutes after posting to correct your mistakes.

A glass of Kilkerran WIP Bourbon Wood while I watch some of "The Last Kingdom" on Netflix. Loving the minerality tonight - It's like walking along a pebble beach.

This weekend I managed to get the old club together minus one member, it had been more than 6 months since we last gathered.
No new acquisitions, we just went crate digging to rediscover some of our old favorites and to finish a few heals.
Here we're my selections:
-Bushmills Black Bush: Simple but so enjoyable, a great way to start the evening
-Benriach 10: Open for close to two years and finally coming along, biscuity and soft
-Hakushu 12: Well composed, elegant, possibly the last time I might enjoy it.
-Springbank 12 CS 54.1%: another one that took a while to come around, stone fruits and basement funk.
-Port Charlotte Islay Barley 2008: Smoked Herring, barnyards and sweet, almost Laphroaig on the nose, speaking of which
-Laphroaig Cairdeas 2015: My favorite Laphroaig so far.
-Ardbeg Uigeadail: Everyone's fave for a reason
-Octomore 7.4 Virgin Oak: BBQ Pork...yum

After many years of collecting dust on my Springbank 14 CS Fino 265, I opened it last night to celebrate my 40th birthday.
It was pretty good. I need to give it some proper attention without any buddies around, but my first impression was that it's heavier and spicier than I was hoping, without enough zip, salt, or funk. So pretty good, but not really what I was hoping for. I had to admit to a friend who correctly read the look on my face that, yes, I was disappointed.
My favorite Springbank remains the old discontinued 10 Year 100 Proof.

@Jonathan, I did indeed give that Famous Grouse 12 a failing grade. It's a failing whisky.

Last night, Bladnoch SMWS 50.56 (23 year - July 1990) ‘Oh I do like to be beside the seaside!’ - Refill barrel - 60.3% ABV. One of the most beautiful whiskies in my cabinet right now, at least of my open bottles.
Tonight, Caol Ila SMWS 53.250 (11 year - Jul. 10th, 2006) "Smoked salt orange peel" from a refill ex-bourbon hogshead - 58.4% ABV. So nice, I’m having a second glass.

I sampled a Magnum Scotch Malt Whisky Cream Liquor. I'm not a fan of these kind of drinks. The agent was a bit perturbed at me for trying to nose the sample. Then he asked "what do you think?". My thought: a decent well balanced cream liquor, not overly sweet, toffee, lots of vanilla, and velvety, clean finish. Overall, a very nice quality cream liquor, if that is your thing. It's a shame because I detected a potentially very good ex-bourbon cask young 5-6 year old Benriach single malt component which, as a single malt would be better. He was not thrilled but then, stated that his company was the acting agent for 4R, Woodford, Arran, Glen Scotia and few others. I cut loose about the excessive high price for Arran 14 in Ontario, and the lack of Glen Scotia 15 in Ontario. The conversation devolved from there. I really, need to keep my thoughts to myself.

Delayed post, but the more I think about it, it has to be said.
Last night @Nosebleed and I opened his bottle of the Canadian Rockies 21 YO. We facetime drammed with @paddockjudge and perhaps it was the company but all agreed it was a very tasty whisky. For 21 years I didn't find it all that complex but the narrow flavour profile was very enjoyable. I would likely rate last night's taste of it at high 80s or 90.
It has a similar profile to Highwood 90/20, but a "graininess" on the nose that I noted in Gooderham and Worts 4-grain.
I have since received a request to bring back a bottle (the price difference from Ontario is insane) and I'm thinking of getting one for me too.

Last night, I finished the remnants of a couple of samples that @Victor shared with me;
William Larue Weller Barrel Proof 67.3% ABV (2015 bottling)
Abraham Bowman Bourbon 17 year (distilled 12/14/94, bottled 5/11/12) 73.75% ABV
What a treat to relive the tasting I had with @Victor and @Dramlette in late September with these two samples. Both are amazing, but that Bowman... Wow! Words cannot describe just how amazing that whiskey truly is! If it was more readily available, that would be a staple in my cabinet. Thanks again @Victor for sharing these whiskies with me!
