Having a dram of Glenmorangie Quinta Ruban today after two days of assisting in teaching a computer program to fellow co-workers. It's going down very smoothly right now.

Isle of Skye. "bottom shelf" yet a good blend. Well worth the price. This is following a fruity Clynelish 14 which followed a local chocolaty stout. Thursdays are most excellent.

Wild Turkey from a 50ml sample bottle. I don't drink bourbon (haven't touched the stuff for years) so that's very rare for me (and it's not half bad either, quite drinkable stuff that). @SquidgyAsh - that's for you mate, literally - when it's empty I'm replacing the contents with something to send you.

Down to the last dram of my Lag. 16.
Do you guys have an opinion on the Glenmo. Sonnalta PX? I have not seen it for some time and I suddenly have an opportunity to buy 2 bottles. It seems to be quite highly thought of by Murray, but he and I are not always on the same page. Any thoughts?

@BlueNote It's one of my favorites and certainly a favorite from that distillery. It has a bit more personality than the typical expressions. If the bottles are reasonable, I would certainly add them to my collection.

@BlueNote, I am completely with @RobertH on Glenmorangie Sonnalta PX. It is a malt I would not like to be without. You don't have to agree with Jim Murray about most things to like Sonnalta PX.

@RobertH @Victor. Thanks guys, that's good enough for me. I knew I could count on you. I'll have a dram for each of you after I pick it up. This is what I love about the connosr forum.

I'm currently enjoying an SMWS bottling from the Glenfarclas Distillery. Labelled 1.162 'Perfumed and Mouth-watering, Eventually'. It was a gift from a colleague, and the third SMWS bottling that I have tried in my journey to date. You can read about it here: whisky-discovery.blogspot.co.uk/2012/05/…

Hi boys (not being sexist but havent seen any girls around here) just joined last night came across this site and thought i would tell you about what im drinking at the moment,
at the moment two bottles open johnnie walker double black, i start the night off on this one, its a lovely smooth smokey blend then i am moving on to a glenmorangie, im not a big fan of the normal glenmorangie but this one is superb very sophisticated its the 15 year old NECTOR D 'or extra matured in sauternes cask truly lovely you get the citrus and complexity of flavours then right at the end the honey comes in for a big hug,
and the best thing is its on offer at sainsburys for £30 i probably wouldn't of bothered if it hadn't been but glad i did.

@Wodha, no doubt every day IS a good day for imbibing. I was just curious about your Thursday reference, whether there were some special Wodha ritual involved,...you know, maybe a trip to the island bunker, dancing under moonlight in front of the Wodha statues or something...

After finishing my Big Peat yesterday, I needed some more Islay peat, so opened 'Sound of Islay' an independant bottling from Cambridge Wine Merchants of a single cask that originally hailed from Bunnahabhain. Bottled on 4th July 2011 at 40% abv there were just 526 bottles on the market. You can read about it here: whisky-discovery.blogspot.co.uk/2012/05/…

Finishing a nice Mother Day feast I had some Elmer T lee Bourbon post dinner. Next thing I know I'm looking at a half empty bottle. When did that happen? Developing a taste for Bourbon now especially with desert. Yummy.

Auchentoshan 12 yr old, while I look at the 30 yr old bottle of Port Ellen my wife bought me for my birthday (It's sooooo pretty!!!) and I write a review for Chivas 25 yr old which is the whisky that made my wife and I start to seriously look beyond whisky and cokes!

SMWS Caol Ila bottling, 9yo and bottled at 67% abv!! Brutal dram, but with some water and some time it turned from a snarling beast into a purring kitten.

@BlueNote...I would 'third' the comments from 'Victor' & 'RobertH' about the Sonnalta PX, based on a couple of samples that I have had over the past year. It knocks the Lasanta out of the water. Get multiple bottles as the supply does seem to be more limited (at least in Ontario/mid-west US). I'm hoping to complete a bottle trade for one sometime this summer.

Last night, I had a Booker's Small Batch bourbon with a Oh Henry chocolate bar 'Easter Egg'. The Oh Henry is what I think of when I sip Booker's, so I thought that I would pair them up. The cask strength aspect of the Booker's was a little more noticeable with the chocolate, but the last couple of sips re-affirmed why I love this bourbon so much! When I'm up for it, I will try the Bookers, followed by the 2011 Stagg that I opened recently...no matches around me for that tasting please!! :)

@Pudge72 Booker's Small Batch bourbon with with spicy cakes is awesome too. Bourbons seem to lend themselves to sweet pairing more in my mind. Although Ardbeg Uigeadail and homemade Buckeye balls(peanut butter balls) are great too. I think I'll go and have some now.

Aberlour 10 yr - Forgot about this bottle as it was at the back of the cabinet. Has been open for a little over a year now and has developed some sweet caramel notes in the meantime. A pleasant surprise tonight!

Edradour 10 year. For a 10 year old there is some pleasant complexity. Lovely dram.

Lunch-time sipping, viewing the world from the summit of rye-dom: Van Winkle Family Reserve 13 yo Rye Whiskey, Abraham Bowman Private Barrel 69.4% abv 10 yo Rye, and Old Potrero 18th Century Style Whiskey. It takes so very little of a top-notch whiskey to give enormous satisfaction.
