@tonc I agree. Bunnahabhain 12 was one of the first drams i purchased, and as a newbie i found it lacking in character. For someone first exploring Islay i might recommend a Caol Ila 12, mid-range in terms of peat. If they enjoy the peatiness of this and maybe want more, then by all means they should go for the Laga 16. If they want their peat in moderation, the Bunnahabhain or one of the Bruichladdichs - I'll defer to someone more knowledgeable of that range - may be more their style.

Speaking of Caol Ila 12, I'm now finishing off a bottle of this favorite and thinking about my next purchase when I get my paycheck next Wednesday. Maybe I'll try a Springbank?

The latest from High West Distillery, Prairie, a vatted Whiskey with a 6 year old Seagrams and a 10 year old Four Roses. While not a huge fan of Bourbon, this was surprising enough to pick up a bottle. Lovely little dram.

@Victor Glad to hear it gets better. I have the 1995 and it's good, looking forward to it being great. Lagavulins definitely benefit from oxidation more than most distilleries out there.

@esajz24 haha! The world of the internets can be quite small. The good thing with r/scotch is that we can cross post reviews here. I raise a glass of PC8 to your good health!

@CognacFan Sounds yummy! I had a very limited edition bourbon barrel aged beer from Brooklyn brewery a month or so ago and even my wife loved it! I have sadly discovered that for some reason I don't care for cognac aged beers for some reason, or at least the couple I've tried.

Just opened a bottle of Laphroaig 18 year old and am enjoying that. It's extremely heavenly. Now for a bit of shameless self advertising: I am a real estate agent working in Toronto, so if anybody has any real estate related questions or needs a realtor, I'm your man.

It's all about Campbeltown tonight - started with Springbank 12 Year Old Cask Strength, followed by Hazelburn 12 Year Old....perfect.

@michaelschout. Let's keep it about whisk(e)y. If you are here to drum up business, you should probably take it somewhere else. No offence, but we are not doing that here.

I'm drinking water! I'm abstaining from any alcohol for the month of August on a bet. I am still acquiring bottles at my normal rate. I figure September 1st will be a magical celebration. I'll be here lurking, I promise.

Easy bet, it seems to me that the alcohol really takes on a nasty tinge when it's so hot outside. I can manage a few favorites but I will have to wait till it cools down a bit.

@michaelschout

@RobertH and @Wodha I find it the opposite for me. When it gets hot outside I'm always craving big malts for some reason. I agree with you two that it's so incredibly counterintuitive.

@BlueNote My apologies. I certainly didn't think 1 post out of my 129 would cause such offense.

@michaelschout. My apologies too. It is absolutely no big deal. I was having a particularly bad day yesterday and probably shot off a little too quickly. Cheers.

@BlueNote The best part about all this is we can bury the hatchet with a dram of our finest!

@michaelschout connosr is probably a good place to promote yourself. the way the market is in toronto, anyone looking to buy a house would likely need a drink or two (or ten) to seriously consider it.....

Longrow CV. Loving it, and then considering the amount it cost me... very nice quality/price ratio this one. Very nice indeed.

@michaelschout. I'm having my old reliable standby, HP 12. Cheers brother. BTW, the two most ridiculously priced commodities in Vancouver are houses and single malt whisky.

Swamped in work well into the evening and likely into the night... Time for something with more of a punch than yesterday. Comparing Longrow CV with Ardbeg Uigeadail. Note a good idea. Although the Longrow is a great single malt, it is both overpowered and outclassed by the Uigeadail.

12 years ago 0

@michaelschout

@Antallodos I'm also partaking in a dram of the beautiful Uigeadail.

Glenmorangie 10, but I also used some Nikka Taketsuru 12 in the sauce for the teriyaki rainbow trout this evening (we didn't have any sake)...worked out wonderfully!

It's all about the sherry tonight... While cooking applewood smoked salmon on the grill, a Bruichladdich 1992 Fino Sherry edition and a 12 year Glen Elgin (SMWS 85.22) from a refill butt followed by a 5 year single sherry cask Kilchoman after dinner. Starting the weekend off right...
