@Victor I see what you mean) I tasted a beefy sample given to me by a friend of mine. And now I'm definitely buying a bottle. Must have!

Still pursueing my scotch adventure with blends will be writing the review for J.W Black this weekend esp. if it keeps raining due to the leftovers of Isaac. Thank god for the rain its quite dry in this state.

@bwmccoy I've just joined the society my friend and after sitting there for two weeks drooling over the sample bottles I decided to crack open the Campbeltown! 27.92 Wake-up Call. A Springbank!!
The one I'm really drooling over is the Laphroaig!

I was out for dinner with friends last night. We stopped into the Last Hurrah afterwards. I tried samplers of Compass Box's Hedonism, Balvenie 17 and PC8. Yummm.

Visiting Los Angeles and stopped by a favorite bar. Tried a 1988 Signatory Mortlach, Connemara Cask Strength, a 21 year old Highland Park also from Signatory, and the new Galileo from Ardbeg. The Mortlach tasted a bit flat (likely from too much time on the shelf), the Connemara was a first for me since I've heard the positive review here. The Highland Park needed a drop of water, and was very nice. The Galileo was sweet and almost juicy/tart.

High West Campfire. THIS is good drinking. The lads up in Park City have a hit with their latest "Campfire". A blend of Bourbon, Rye and Scotch. This is real good. Try it. I'm interested in what you think.

Yesterday evening had another installment of "family poker and scotch night" with my father-in-law, brother-in-law and our wives. While playing Texas Hold 'em, we enjoyed; Tullibardine 1993 - not bad, but have had this one a few times now and it's not one of my favorites. Aberlour 16 - this is excellent whisky. Hard to find in WA state, but I will add it to my cabinet if I can find it! Johnnie Walker Green Label - Everytime I have this one, I wonder why Diageo would discontinue it. Highland Park 18 - A classic! Another one I haven't had in my cabinet in a long time. Need to fix that! Kilchoman 5 yr single sherry cask - This distillery blows me away with the quality for such a young age. Bruichladdich PC7 - "In your face Islay". Not for the faint of heart, but so good. SMWS Bruichladdich Port Charlotte 8 yr (127.13) - Not as heavy as the PC7. Understated in comparison. SMWS Caol Ila 17 year (53.154) - I have never been disappointed in an SMWS Caol Ila. Outstanding!

@SquidgyAsh - Glad to hear you joined the Society. I hope you enjoy it as much as I have. I love the name of the Springbank. What did you think of it? Which Laphroaig did you get?
As for 127.13, I've only had it twice since I opened the bottle. The first time, I got sweet smoke on the nose and salty smoke on the taste; very salty, but not in a bad way. I really enjoyed it. When I had it last night, we tried it side-by-side with the PC7. I think this was a mistake. The PC7 over-powered my tastedbuds and the 127.13. I still got the sweet smoke on the nose, but didn't get the salty taste.
I guess I have to do some more research with it. I will report back my findings. :-)

@Wodha I just picked up that Campfire too! I need to get it on a plane before I can open it, but I'm excited to check it out.

Bruichladdich Laddie 10 went on sale at our local Spec's, so I grabbed a bottle and just popped the top on it.

...alright, the Laddie 10 was an interesting drink. Now it is time to crack open the Bruichladdich 17 yr Rum Cask.

Just bought a bottle of Ardbeg Uigeadail - This one is awesome, I won't try another dram before this one is finished!
13 years ago 0
@CPTFELZ, then you won't have any Uigeadail left...maybe you need a second bottle before finishing off the first one, to give yourself a cushion.
As for me, Aberlour A'bunadh, batch # 26. Magnificent.

@Victor You're right, good idea ;-)
I have the Aberlour A'bunadh, batch 37. I liked this one too, but was a bit too alcoholic for me. Maybe it fits better when winter is back here in Austria!

Hanging, working in L.A. This week. Found a great place called The Daily Pint. 200 scotches available. Wow.
Had a 30 yr old Glenrothes. Worth the price. Lovely.
Also, a 33 yr old Craigduff. Smoke but not peat. Fascinating.
Really a place to visit if one finds oneself in Santa Monica, California.

While sampling my open bottles prior to adding inert gases for preservation, one of my all time favourites: Willett Bourbon Single Barrel # 79 "Sopressata" (yes, they left out one of the "p"s from the name of the sausage), 18 years old, 69.7% ABV. Good Lord, this is wonderful.

@maltymatt Sorry for the late reply Matt...It's the newer release Bunnahabhain 12 yr that's in the brown bottle, and unchill filtered at 46.3% abv.
Right now - I'm enjoying the Glenmorangie Astar.

@Wodha - which one? All of them are great, just curious which one you are enjoying.
For me, Springbank SMWS 27.96 “Character and contradictions” followed by Bruichladdich PC7.

Though I did pick up a bottle of GlenDronach 12 and Edradour 10 today ; )

Arran Malt Amarone Cask Finish. Very pleasantly surprised given the mixed reaction to it I've heard, and my general disinclination to port/wine finishes on whiskies.

Went to the store a few days ago to replenish my supply of Ardbeg Uigeadail. Turned out to be an expedition, as only one local store had one lonely bottle. They were asking $10 more than usual, which didn't please me. But then I noticed they had Dalmore 12yo on sale for a great price, so I picked up both and rationalized that I saved a couple of bucks on what I'd pay for both elsewhere.
Dalmore wasn't on my "Buy Next" list, but I couldn't pass up the bargain. I think I wish I had. Waxiest stuff I've ever tasted. Like drinking those little wax pop bottles you used to be disappointed to get for Halloween when you were a kid. I'll see if it improves as the bottle goes down, then post a review.

@WhiskyBee The Dalmore will improve amazingly with time. See my review! Waxiness at first is spot on. Give it a good month and you won't be disappointed!

@bwmccoy Bruichladdich Octomore/2_140 Edition 02.1 PPM: 140. Aged 5 years. Bottle #9550 of 15,000. 62.5% ABV. I had no idea there was this much information. I need to pay attention. This tastes peatier than a 2010 Ardbeg Supernova I had a while back. If I had to choose I'd take the Supernova over this Octomore. But having said that this Octomore is awesome. I got a great deal on it. $65. This was during the WA state 1183 transition phase. Some special orders were 1/2 price.
