In March 2019 I tasted private cask #141 that was bottled by the guys from BYOB-C and today I get my hands on a sample of cask #140 that was bottled for the collective CasQueteers. Small world, right? This was bottled about 6 months before Douglas Laing bought the distillery. Let’s get started!
What a beautiful, sweet nose that is! A cartload of red fruit: strawberries, raspberries and red berries with a leaf of mint. Very sweet. Reminds me of Haribo bears. But it definitely doesn't show any new make-y traits anymore, though. Some more apricots. Think Supermanlogos, the sweets.
Great mouthfeel. And it does not burn, despite the high ABV. Again red fruit, mint and apricots, but now also some rose water and lemonade of mango. Nice and spicy on cloves and cinnamon. There is no need for water.
The finish remains sweet, very sweet even. With a lovely spiciness that lingers for a long time.
Impressive for a three-year-old malt, though. Excellent PX cask, that much is clear.
