I could not find a lot of information on this bottle. It would seem that a certain Mr Gray bottled this for his Inchedemmie Villa in Forres, near Elgin. I have no clue who Mr Gray was, but by the looks of it, I would venture this was bottled somewhere in the early 1990s. It smells fairly young on sweet malt, yellow apples, peach and dandelions. Very soft and completely devoid of spices. It is surprisingly oily and shows an immediate prickle from the wood. Pepper and ginger, but also liquorice. The apples return and are now joined by some citrusy notes. Grapefruit, even. A little bit of vanilla and a hint of white dry sherry. The finish is medium long on citrus and liquorice. I believe that Mr Gray – who was allowed to add Esquire to his name, meaning he enjoys a higher social status – poured this as an aperitif to the guests at his villa. I’ve tasted much worse. Thanks to The Green Man for the sample.
