It's very different - light, sweet and with quite a lot of rum notes from the cask. I quite like it, but it's definitely quite a young and uncomplex spirit, so won't be to everyone's taste.

Bought a bottle last Friday, and had a taste today. The nose is light and floral, and first taste on the palate is a little harsh, owing I think to the 46% abv. This whiskey needs some water to open the nose (buttery and nutty after adding water) and to tame the alcohol burn. Very sweet due to the rum cask finish. But still a little spicy at the end.
While fine neat, I'm thinking that this will be an excellent whiskey for cocktails. The Teeling Whiskey website has a couple of recipes I think I will try.

I find the Teeling a splendid Whiskey with a large Malt component. The Rum cask finish adds an attractive polish to a well balanced approachable 'drop'. Like all fine Whiskeys, it improves enormously after time in a large decanter; in fact time in the glass is quite effective.
I get the best result (for me) after the Teeling has been open and decanted for a couple of weeks, also that it has better texture and is more delicious with no water added. The decanted spirit is very different from Whiskey freshly opened - Among those Irish Whiskeys I've tried the Teeling is the classiest in all but the specialty bottlings.
Cheers.

I had a taste of Teeling in Whisky Live Melbourne 2014 over the weekend - just not my cup of 'Tee'.
I find the nose rather "spirituous" with the raw alcohol smell is a little more prominent than my liking.

@Smokehead I wrote a review of it, but I don't know why it appears under the title Small Batch. Check it on my profile. It is good but too blendy.
I find that the Jameson black select reserve is very special and an incredible buy or even better and nothing short of amazing for the price you have the Redbreast 12 yo.

I opened a bottle of Teeling last night and found my first glass to be rather poor. It has a weird sickly "down" note that I really hope blows off during the open bottle's life, as @A'bunadhman suggests. I was drinking it next to a glass of Writers Tears, which in comparison was totally clean and fresh and tasty.
I really wish I'd bought something like a Powers Gold or a Knappogue Castle 12 YO instead.

I want to add for everybody interested in this whisky that it is one of the easiest pear taste to spot as well as one one of the easiest rhum taste to spot. So I guess I could say that the flavor profile is well defined.
