TEXAS WHISKEY SUMMIT

Everything is bigger in Texas and that includes whiskey summits. The Texas summit will be hosted at my Lakehouse near Medina Lake (west of San Antonio). The house has 8 full beds (3 bunk and 1 trundle) so I can accommodate several participants. Sleeping arrangements are not luxurious, so if you want privacy/space there are other places to stay nearby. Between myself and a few friends who join, we should be able to provide transportation to all participants during the summit.

Possible activities depend on the season, but we will have access to: Downtown San Antonio (1hr drive) Bass Boat Guadalupe River (1.5hr drive) Garrison Brothers Distillery (1.5hr drive) Helotes, TX (30 min drive) Fredericksburg, TX (1.5hr drive)

I suggest April or October 2017 as the best months to host.

@newreverie, your generous offer is irresistible.

I look forward to visiting Texas and continuing the Whiskey Summit Series in the "Friendship" State. I can see our group eventually procuring a barrel of whiskey...now wouldn't that be a treat! Although I would prefer to attend a Whiskey Summit in October, I would be equally enthusiastic about participating in a summit during the month of April.

The inaugural Whisky Summit will take place in New Mexico in September of this year. Knowing that the location for the second summit has been set will allow us to begin planning WhiskEy Summit III. Perhaps some of the Ontario Summit participants will consider attending.

Great whisky can be enjoyed by all, but good whisky shared with friends becomes legend.

@paddockjudge Your comment actually forced me to look up some Texas facts. While we make numerous references to friendship and overall friendliness, i've never actually heard Texas referred to as the "Friendship State". Turns out Friendship is the state motto and many outside of Texas refer to us that way.

Nearly all Texans prefer "The Lone Star State". Which is a reference to the State and former national Flag which was emblazoned with a singe star. A common play on words is also "The Loan Star State" with the added joke that we are just letting the United States borrow our star for their flag.

@newreverie, Texas tourism adds make mention of 'friendship', but I much prefer 'Loan" Star State!

I think a bottle of Confederation Oak might be in order for next year's TX Summit.

Happy New Year all. I figure this is as good a time as any to start figuring out the details of the Texas Whiskey Summit.

First order of business is when and where. I've got two options on the where. We can do the summit in Houston or at my lakehouse in San Antonio. Both locations have advantages.

Houston will provide a more comfortable setting. I have an open bed room, and my dad has two. We have a nice upstairs bar, pool, and a view of the forest.

San Antonio will provide a more cowboy experience. The lakehouse is high on a hill with expansive views and there are beds for 8. It is a smaller place, but we'd spend most of the time outside.

As far as when, weather is usually good year round, but summer will be hot. Expect daytime temps in the 90s between June and September. We do have air conditioning. Even though it is hot, 4th of July might make a great week at either location. My favorite time of year in both Houston and San Antonio is March and October. Let me know what you think.

@Victor, @paddockjudge, @Benancio I've let a few busy months go by, but wanted to revive this topic. A Texas summit will happen in Houston around October with some good friends. Is there any interest from my fellow connosrs to join this year?
