This official release, limited to 1710 bottles, saw the light of day in 2018. It’s a Fino sherry cask finish and was bottled at cask strength.
Nice, layered nose on red fruit, dried figs, mildly burnt caramel and candied grapefruit. I was told this also had a few rubber off-notes, but – luckily – I’m not getting those. Hint of chocolate and some gingerbread. Coca-Cola! Really! And it’s all fine as far as I’m concerned.
Good strength and nicely oily. Immediately sweet and sour on cola-candy, grapefruit, balsamic, caramel and liquorice. A salty edge – that must be the Fino. Mildly piquant on cloves and some black pepper. The red fruit returns and even becomes a bit candy-like, like those red shoe-laces, remember? Some late chewing tobacco.
The long, sweet and sour finish offers some bitter oranges and a handful of hazelnuts. Dutch peppernuts at the death.
I’m mightily impressed with this Tobermory.
