The Jameson tour in Cork is also a bit of a "Disney" show. They keep you out of the actual working parts of the distillery. (At least thats how it was 10 years ago) However it was a good tour with plenty of samples. I've never been to Scotland to compare. And if you ever make it to Kentucky, don't miss Buffalo Trace.

@MCM Sorry but +1 on the "Disney" midleton Jameson Tour, Lots of exhibits on the way it used to be but no connection to the actual distillery. Nice visitor center and a good tasting room but a disappointment if you want to see whisky being made. The Guiness Tour in Dublin is 100% Disney. Skip it unless you like noise and crowds. Did not do Bushmills but went into the visitor center and it seemed very low key, don't know what they offer for a tour. Fall of 2012.

I'm currently considering a visit to Ireland in February and of course I'm interested in visiting one or more distilleries. So any recommendations? I've been told to avoid the Old Jameson Distillery in Dublin as it's more like a Disneyland attraction than an old preserved distillery. And how are they in comparison to their Scottish counterparts. (So far I've visited: Glenkinchie, Aberfeldy, Oban, Blair Athol, Glengoyne and Ben Nevis)
