@two-bit-cowboy Thanks for the suggestions, I'll bear them in mind. At this rate I'll be spending all my spare time in whisky shops, so HURRAH! Cheers

@yalc Thanks for the heads up. If I can't pick it up in a shop then the good old internet will help I imagine. Cheers.

@Andrew as i said earlier I not really considered the importance of glasses. I know that different wines suit different glasses but not really thought of whisky like that. I've sent off for a number of books (good old Amazon) on whisky which will I hope improve my knowledge. As to buying whisky and not trying it....Nah stupid idea, don't think I'll be doing that. Open and enjoy I say. Cheers.

@Zigman Ok thanks for the tip. The Bowmore I have tried hasn't been to my taste at all but as you say, some of the others in their range may be. The Macallen is I think the favourate in my cabinet at the moment so I will definately be exploing their stuff some more. Cheers.

@IainVH I am a huge fan of peated malts and especially the ones from Islay. But on all Islay peated malts, Bowmore is the one I love the least. It is good, but I think it is missing a special thing that others have. Laphroaig and Ardbeg are my favorites. Try the Laphroaig Quarter cask. It is a good price and has a nice complexity. I would suggest also Ardbeg Uigeadail. It is more expensive but it is one of my favorites.
I see you have the Jura 10, but try the Superstition or even the 16. They are a few steps ahead of the 10. If you want something different, try the Clynelish 14. Very nice. It is peppery barley with some honeyed pears notes. quite unique. Ardmore Tradional Cask is a very good malt. It is peated but very different than the Islay peat.
The BenRiach range is quite amazing, especially the peated one (the ones with Latin names) The Aromaticus Fumosus Dark Rum finish is very very good.

@IainVH Try this experiment: pour three little shots of the same whisky into three very different glasses and nose/taste them. I find a dramatic difference. I try different whiskies in different glasses depending on the mood. In fact with the recent glorious weather here I even did one like my dad does. Lots of ice in a tumbler, a healthy shot of Glenfiddich with an equal amount of still water. Not my favorite but perfect for a hot day at the BBQ.

@Wodha Sounds like a good excuse for three whiskies rather than one! Hurrah! Seriously, I'll give it a try and let you know the results. Cheers

You are absolutely right ! @Kutter Your summary of peated malts is accurate for my part. Ardbeg, Laphroaig, Ardmore and Benriach. This is it.

@JoeVelo I also like the Kilchoman, the new distillery on Islay, but only the one with the sherry finish. The bourbon-only malts are too green in my sense almost new make tasting with a lot of peat. The sherry finish are very nice, you cannot tell they are only slightly over 3 years old. I have the autumn 2009 release (second release ever), which is very rare now. I also tasted the spring 2010 release (rare too). These two are sherry finish. I have the summer 2010, which was the first release available in USA, but it is not sherry finish. The following Winter release was the same, but I did not taste it. I think the latest release is a sherry finish and can be found in USA/Canada, but I am not sure.

I forgot Kilchoman products of course @Kutter They are excellent whiskies for the 3 years of aging they have. I tasted the Spring 2010 release I think. Very good and it looks very well for the future.
