@HeartlessNinny there is a thread here called "scotch cocktails" or "single malt cocktails". If you can't find them on the site, google "connosr scotch cocktails". The search functions on this site don't work that well. Another cool drink would be a Rob Roy. But I personally recommend a Rob Roy, sub the cherry for a big fat orange peel zest, and sub the sweet vermouth with Amaro, you could also add a small splash of Luxardo Marascino liquor. I call this a "Black Rob Roy" or a "Rob Roy Dorchados". Dorchados is Galic for dark / darkness.

There is enough good whisky out there to more than use up your liver limit.
I try not to waste time on bad whisky. Put it far back in your cabinet (you may find someone who likes it) and drink something good. Or.....dump it.

@HeartlessNinny , it sounds like you have McClellend's Islay single malt, a young unnamed Bowmore that is indeed pretty awful in my experience. (I bought it a couple times in my early whisky days and then tried it again about a year ago after having much better stuff in the interim, and I hated it, even for $13/bottle.)
I dump all my subpar stuff together into one big Sh#t Mix. Sometimes the unpleasant parts of some whiskies aren't so bad once diluted against other whiskies that have their different flaws. The Sh#t Mix becomes the whisky I drink on ice, in cocktails, or as a night's final I-probably-shouldn't-have-another-dram-but-I-do-anyway-and-don't-want-to-waste-the-good-stuff dram.

Why not use it to marinade some meat of fish with it and have a nice BBQ? You can also marinade some woodchips and smoke your meat or fish.

try using it in a Cesar. Also I add half a cup of blended scotch to every beef stew I make, let the beef soak in it and your spices for a while then add your veg and broth . . . don't forget the Worcestershire sauce :)

@HeartlessNinny Add 2 ounces of Laphroaig 10y cask strength. I've done it before and it works fairly well. You can ways give it away, Good luck.

If in your position, I'd use the bottle to up the malt content of a cheap blend. 2/3 blend with 1/3 single malt.

I would suggest you cut it with drambuie and make a rusty nail. 2 parts scotch to half oz drambuie, add some ice and you have a pretty nice cocktail, The drambuie will add a lot of sweetness so don't add too much,

If you're interested in some experimentation, why not adopt an approach like Dave Broom's excellent & thought-provoking "Whisky: The Manual" (amazon.co.uk/Whisky-The-Manual-Dave-Broom/…), and try your whisky at different dilutions with a variety of mixers.
Sometimes the interplay of flavours can bring about unexpected yet awesome results (e.g. Kilchoman Machir Bay mixed 1:2 with coconut water).
Just resist the temptation to do loads of experimentation consecutively, or the rest of your day may tend towards the unexpected also ;)

You pour if for your loudmouth neighbour who claims to like peaty Whisky but finds a 15 y.o Laphroaig too subtle...

I was recently given what I would call a pretty sub-par bottle (I believe it's called McClelland's). I opened it with some friends and everyone agreed it was rather dreadful.
I'm loathe to waste whisky, however... Any suggestions? One of my friends suggested making Rusty Nails out of it, which honestly struck me as a good idea. I'm open to other thoughts though of course.
