@paddockjudge But were they more expensive than the Pittyvaich 30 :)

Just found out my number was picked in the Montgomery County ABS lottery and I "won" a bottle of Old Rip Van Winkle 10 year! Of course it isn't free but I get to pay the real cost of a Old Rip 10 - $59.99 (plus taxes). I have never had the chance to try any of the Pappy range yet and I would never pay the markup prices so I am a bit excited. I will pick up the bottle next Saturday.

@Astroke, the price of that Caroni is somewhere in between Mister Sam and antique Pittyvaich. I was fishing for a trade.

Three bottles of John Walker and Sons 200th Anniversary Celebratory Blend. Why? Well @markjedi1's review and other positive comments from friends here and elsewhere, aligned with my apparent compulsion for buying Johnnie Walker blends, have all convinced me to take the plunge.

Well, that and Amazon had it reduced to £40 a bottle from £55! I find that if I want to buy something from Amazon and add it to my basket, but then remove it from my basket after a day or so, the price seems to drop a few days later. Well, this happened here but it dipped another £5 today so I thought, 'why not?!'

Disclaimer - I wish I would buy nothing from them but, as the saying goes, all's fair in love and whisky buying grin

@RianC I'll admit that a few bottles of this were recently add to my cabinet when the price dropped on a manager's special to $84 Canuck bucks. One bottle is being sent to a mutual Connosr member, who's sibling is a JW fan.

@fiddich1980 For $84 I would have probably picked up 1 or 2 first, and asked questions (or tasted) later...

@fiddich1980 .....But thanks to you and the sample you gave me, I saved the price of a whole bottle. I tried a little tonight. It's not bad, and perhaps I will like it more as I go through the sample, but it's something that maybe I don't need to own. I was (am?) attracted to the high ABV. But I think I like Green just a bit more...

@Nozinan drink what ypu like. The modern Green introduced a few years ago lacks the depth of the earlier releases(my opinion). The current Green is not very smoky. Whisky vatted and blended are subject to variations not only over time but, are also catered to evolving mass market preferences. I"m guessing that your Green is an early bottling?

@fiddich1980 my current bottle of green is one of the bottles that became available when it was re-released at the LCBO.

There is also Island Green, which is smokier, but alas, only available in travel retail and who is travelling?

@RianC, nice value play on the John Walker and Sons 200th Anniversary Celebratory Blend. I too would pick up a couple of bottles at that price if they were available to me.

@paddockjudge Not me... Price does not affect the taste of whisky. If I chose not to buy it at $105 because I did not feel it was in my wheelhouse, the only time I would buy it on sale would be if someone else wanted it.

Clynelish 14 year-old, which is finally back in stock at the LCBO, online order only (well, there were 75 bottles this morning, at least, so who knows how many are left now...)

@fiddich1980 @Nozinan - I wouldn't buy Green Label now, but when it was first rereleased (c2017) I'm convinced the batches were of a better quality. It also had a different label and packaging to what's available now, with an embossed cut through tree trunk section on the box.

I still have one of those bottles and managed to pick up two bottles of the old Pure Malt bottles at auction Last month. I would like to do a h2h at some point, but not sure if I want two full open bottles on the go.

The last bottle of GL I had (with the 'new' packaging) wasn't great at all and did not do well over time. I gave the last third or so away.

A replacement bottle of Balvenie 12 single barrel to have when I am able to. Always loved the dry fresh fruits that this one brings and hoping this bottle lives up to the others I have had. Cheers. Tim.

@RianC That’s good to know. I have one bottle left from before GL was discontinued and was considering buying a new bottle.

@RianC how much did the bottles of 'pure malt' go for at auction if you don't mind me asking? I have one in my stash from about 10 years ago.
