@NamBeist At $100 Talisker 10 is not one of the more affordable malts. I agree it's good, but a 10 YO entry malt for $100 CAD is not good value. Look at the Excelent Benromach 10, with ABV only slightly lower (43%), but 40% cheaper at $60.

And even Bowmore Tempest, a 10 YO, CASK STRENGTH, is $90 (though a year ago it was just over $70). Nope, not a value malt here...

@Nozinan My home country is the Netherlands. Benromach 10, which is excellent, costs between 43 and 50 euro in the Netherlands .Talisker 10 costs between 32 and 40 euro. Well, which bottle would you prefer to buy? It is a dutch trait to spend money well, to find a balance between quality and expenses. I am sorry to say that Bowmore does not thrill me at all.

@Nozinan I hope for you and your fellow Canadians that whisky will drop in price in the near future. Of cause you are welcome to move to the Netherlands and get some value for money. We need doctors too!

@NamBeist Do you need bilingual (French/English) History/Philosophy teachers??? I'd love to move my family to the Netherlands. smirk

@Victor Of all the bottles in my collection, Talisker 175 is not only my favorite, I also own more bottles of it than any other. Thankfully all 10+ bottles I have bought we're all under $80.
By the way I saw a case of OGD114 with bottles priced at 19.99 I think I might go grab them all.

@Victor Well I have to admit that Takisker 175 anniversary probably is a very great whisky. I have read some tasting notes and I have found out that this dram does not contain young whisky. It is at least 10 years old. Some components date back from the mid seventies. Its price? The price is about 185 euros ( $ 207 ) today. This is a NAS whisky, but I should have bought it when it was released. I would like to compare it with Talisker 18, which costs 100 euros in Europe. I wish I had deep pockets or no common sense.

Talisker 175 anniversary was released in 2005. It is rather scarce nowadays. It is a pity that Talisker does not produce this high quality of NAS whisky anymore. I believe there is a market for a Talisker like 175 anniversary. I wonder what the price tag will be. It will not be around 75 euro like it used to be. I rather think it will be about 250 euro. That is just business as usual. I wonder if Talisker has still supplies from the mid seventies. I hope it does.

Purchased a Wiser's Legacy, because I had finished my bottle. I was intending to purchase the newly released in Ontario, Canadian Rockies 21 year, 46%. However the LCBO saw fit to sell this for $113.95 Cad. laughing

Pass the Ninety 20 please.

I bought a bottle of Islay Mist 8 because it's inexpensive but it's made (partly) with Laphroaig. I was disappointed with the first couple of drams this time. It seems much less peaty and Laphroaigy than previous bottles, tasting mostly of sweet grain (wheat?) whisky, but the first glass or two is not usually representative of the bottle. I think I'll leave this one for a week or two and see if the peat comes to the forefront. My Lagavulin DE is much smokier now than when I opened it. The sweetness from the PX casks is far more complimentary and does not dominate.

@NamBeist, 30 euros is quite a cheap price for Talisker 10. At that price even I might put several bottles away. Currently that is about US$ 33.50. Average world price on wine-searcher.com is currently $ 54, which is what Talisker 10 costs currently in my county on sale, including the tax. One cannot count on 38% below world mean prices lasting.

@Victor So how many of your remaining allotment of bottles from your 10 bottle 3-year limit would you put towards those...(I think you have 4 left and about 2 years, right?)

@Nozinan, I am already 7 bottles purchased in 9 months after that recent Laphroaig 10 CS #008 purchase. If I saw Talisker 10 for $ 34 total price I would probably buy at least 2, maybe 3. Don't think I will ever see that price, though, around here. My "under 10 bottles in 3 years" or even "10 bottles in 3 years" chances look quite dim, because there is a very good chance I will be offered some more BTAC and/or Van Winkle over the next 2 cycles. I will buy any and all of those offered at dealer price, for sure. Last fall 3 of my current 7 purchased, and cumulative 9 to 10 bottles to be purchased, came from two Handys and an ORVW10. If I had specified "excluding BTAC and Van Winkle" I may have had a decent chance of making my prediction good. As it stands it looks like I will go 1 year and that is about it.

@newreverie Oh I wish I was in Texas. ....I really do. I would also buy a few bottles of Balcones whiskey. Get me a Stetson hat and some cowboy boots. And listen to the music of Waylon Jennings and ZZ Top all day long. ...

While visiting the wife of a close friend that passed away last year, I paid a visit to the liquor retailing location he use to frequent. My buddy was well known to the owner, who only had kind, comforting words to share. For that reason alone, the stop was more than worthwhile. And although the items on my short "shopping list" were not available, I did find two bottles of Hakushu 12yo available with outdated prices. Walked out the door with a smile on my face, peace in my soul, two bottles of an enjoyable Japanese whisky, and US$40 in savings in my pocket.

I just picked up a bottle of Glenlivet 16 year old Nadurra in Hood River, Oregon. This is the 55.7% version bottled 08/14. They also had one at 60.2% which my sister inlaw will be bringing north for me in August. I should have noted the bottling date and batch number. I think it was bottled 10/14, but not sure. I went with the other one as I have had it and I know it is excellent. $84 US, but worth it.

Was there any 20 YO Pendleton' on the shelf? It is easily recognized as the bottle sports a leather holster.

@BlueNote the 0814 D is the batch that was rated as excellent by @antihero on All Things Whisky, and I found 2 bottles of that in Calgary in December. One of those made its way to @paddockjudge and the other rests in my cabinet.

@paddockjudge My sister in law worked at Hood River Distillers for about 20 years. They bottle the Pendleton which is Canadian whisky as I understand it. She has a couple of well aged bottles at home that were special bottlings given to staff. I think one of them is 20 or 21 years old. All I've had is the 1910 which I thought was pretty good.

I just pushed the button on a bottle of Springbank 12 Cask Strength. I haven't a Springbank yet but everything suggests it should be a winner. Bagged it for $95 NZD (Google tells me $68 USD or $91 CAD). Can't wait to try it.
