@ajjarrett I haven't tried Edition No1 but have tasted a goodly sample of the No2 and it's got a superb nose and the palate is very balanced, it's a better offering than most of Macallan's current crop. If you can find it for an affordable price and the NAStyness of it doesn't violate your code of ethics could be worth looking into.

@BlueNote yeah, us damn Canucks and our price talk sweat_smile I've pretty much come to terms with the fact that, I'm going to have to smuggle about half of the interesting bottles I want either due to availability or price.

Sometimes though the monopoly pulls through, recent example SAQ is finally getting Kilkerran 12 and it's going to be about 82$, that's comparable to US prices, considering exchange.

@cricklewood Very good dram and very good deal on the Kilkerran.

I think it was @Nozinan who had the right idea: drink less and drink better, even if it costs more.

@cricklewood , your Kilkerran 12 for $82 Canadian sounds like a better deal than the price down here in the USofA (~$75). Score!

@cricklewood You may have the opportunity to taste again the Macallan No 2. I bought a bottle in Ottawa recently but I have not opened it yet, a tasting session could be a good excuse for opening it. And thank you for putting on my radar the Kilkerran, I will definitely go for it.

@BlueNote I second the good doctor's mantra, it's one we could all follow. It's easy to get whipped into a frenzy over every new release.

@Robert99, Good to hear from you sir, you beat me to the punch, I was going to fire you a message about the Kilkerran tonight. The SAQ website actually has a preview of next week's releases now. There's actually a lot of interesting things that have come out recently but I won't hijack the thread over it. We are definitely overdue for a session. Let me find a proper location and we'll make it happen.

@Nozinan , about the new releases or the tasting session? As for the former I am always willing to pick-up a bottle to help a member out, if it's the latter, the more the merrier, I don't know enough dedicated whisky drinkers in my parts.

Well, I just dropped by to a local/nearby liqour store, I had stopped going to for a while, and I picked up a bottle of the Macallan Edition No. 2. The reason I had stopped going there was that they were usually a bit higher priced on the stuff I wanted to buy. However, I am glad I still follow their 'specials/sales,' over their website. They are selling the Edition No. 2 for 94.99 (before tax), so with tax 103USD. Not too bad. I think you all know it looks like, so I won't include a photo. But the ABV (for those who are wondering) is 48.2%.

I received my shipment of Black Art 3.1 and what above I called "Kilkerran WIPX." Turns it, the mystery Kilkerran was WIP #4, one I haven't had before. Woo! $43 well spent.

If ya'll will excuse an "out loud" mental rundown of what's in my now-surely-never-to-expand-again Kilkerran stash, I do believe these are all the ones I'll be opening at some point in the life of my now-open bottle of the 12 YO: WIP#1, WIP#4, WIP#6 Sherry, WIP#7 Bourbon CS, and the 8 YO CS. Wow, I wish now that I'd saved off a sample of the WIP#5 Bourbon, but 2014 me was an idiot.

And now that I've made sure nothing happened with those couple bottles I got shipped, I can spill the whisky beans on where I found this stuff: Joyal's Liquors in NJ. They ship, but you have to call. And not everything on their online inventory page is actually there, but it's definitely worth a browse and a phone call for the stuff with hot prices. Again, that Black Art was still at the old price of $200.

Got the Middleton very rare 2016 at airport on way out. Had tried to pre-order Octomore 8.2 but got email saying not in stock.

The staff at T2 Manchester were really helpful let me have sample of Glenmorangie 18 and Middleton from a 2010 sample.

@MadSingleMalt Lucky you. Joyal's Liquor has been on my list of stores I check from time to time. Unfortunately, being Canadian, I have to plan a trip to take advantage of their inventory. Enjoy your Kilkerran collection and don't be hard on the 2014 "you" for the indulgence you treat yourself with. I am sure the 2014 you deserve it.

@cricklewood There was a few arrivals at SAQ that were interesting, but I put an hold on them when I purchase the Macallan No 2. And yes, I think we are overdue for a tasting session.

@MadSingleMalt

@Robert99 , you should definitely check out Joyal's if ever you get a chance. Even if you just have an opportunity to ship something to a friend in the US and then have to figure out logistics from there, do it! Why do I recommend them so highly? Because, based on my few phone calls to make my recent order happen, every single person working there is absolutely East Coast as all hell. They're awesome! At least for me, a US-Midwesterner who never spent much time in that part of the world, there's a huge novelty factor to enjoy.

It's like ordering whisky from Marisa Tomei.

As for 2014 me, he was an idiot not only because he failed to save off a sample of that Kilkerran WIP#5, he was on such a peat kick at the time that he found the Kilkerran "too boring" and batched it together with a young CS Caol Ila IB to sharpen it up.

Oh, him.

@MadSingleMalt Ok, I'm old enough to be excited with Marisa Tomei, so I may called them. As for the 2014 you... Well... I rest my case, I surrender. You were wrong mannnn. Wrong twice. Wrong to the Kilkerran and wrong to the Caol Ila. That could be a fun discussion: When were you very very wrong ? I have to say, I would probably have to write more than one comment under this title. ;)

@MadSingleMalt

@Robert99 , in 2014 me's defense, the Kilkerran was a little mild and the Caol Ila was a little rough, and he enjoyed the blend more than he enjoyed either part.

But yeah, he shoulda been precious enough about it to pour off a sample first. Fool! I bet he would have confused a 1964 Skylark 1963 Pontiac Tempest too.

It's payday, so I bought a bottle of Wiser's Legacy. I'm hearing rumours (on this site) about Legacy's imminent demise, and I'd be remiss if I didn't try it at least once.

OK, call it peer pressure.

I had a prepaid gift visa. I tried to buy LCBO gift cards (in anticipation of the northern border collectionwith it but it keeps claiming there is a problem with the address. I called HelloLCBO and they said it was likely security issues with preloaded cards for gift cards.

But the site to but product is less "finicky" according to them. So I tried...and came away with 2 bottles of Legacy to be sent to a nearby store.

Now I just have to score some more gift Visa to be able to get some of the special releases.

Peer pressure indeed. Just placed an order for an additional bottle of Legacy as well, to go with the three unopened bottles I already have. Right now I feel like that's plenty, but fast forward a bit and I may regret having not stocked up even more. If it wasn't for the Northern Border collection I may indeed have done so, but four will have to do for now. There's that pesky bank account to keep in mind.

I was at a structured tasting last night where the guy in charge did a great job. No BS, fun info, nice sequence on the drams. And it was great value too: $25 for eight drams, plus some heavy whoredurves (sic). Isle of Skye 12, Tamdhu 10, Hazelburn 13 CS Oloroso, Kilkerran 12, Springbank 10, Longrow Peated, Kilchoman Machir Bay, and Kilchoman Loch Gorm. I'd had nearly all of those before, but it was still super fun to run through them all with some fun strangers. And the Kilkerran 12 surprised me: after being somewhat let down by my own bottle recently, I found last night's pour really vibrant and fresh.

After all that, I did buy one bottle because the price was so nice: $36 for the Isle of Skye 12. A recent exchange here with @Victor was indeed on my mind as I pulled that particular trigger.
