@BlueNote I am not at liberty to say, only that Porchetta compliments many whiskies, including high test ryes.

@BlueNote, @RianC, mmmmmm, perfectly roasted crackling drool

FYI, a few years ago I dubbed Masterson's 10 YO Rye the Official Rye Whisky of Porchetta.

@Nozinan I'll mention that to my Scottish doctor and see if that will get me off the anti statins (Sp).

@BlueNote achh, statins! they give you diabetes and hard ear wax! (also lower cholesterol in some people and may help to prevent heart attacks and strokes, but...)

@MacBaker62 any chance of reviews on the two lovely looking AD Rattrays?

They crushed it!! Canada's best known Independent Whisky Retailer reached out to a major producer. Here's one side of the story.

@archivist, I've never directly purchased anything from that retailer...until this weekend. That's some cask strength spirit on display. I'm guessing they've grown closer since.

@paddockjudge They just had their big annual birthday sale. I managed to contain myself at 9 bottles. Between me and a couple of other local malt heads, we've got at least 3 cases coming through the Rockies.

A very nice Whisky Bar at the wedding I attended Saturday. Missing from the picture is the Groom pouring from two bottles of Balvenie Tun 1401 Batch #9.

@paddockjudge - Done! Ha! I notice a bottle of armagnac in the mix - how is it?

@RianC, the Armagnac is delicious. LCBO exclusive back in 2014, barely affordable then. As with most of my whisky/spirits, it was paid for with income earned from extra work, $136 per bottle incl taxes.

The nose is magnificent, like most brandy it exceeds the palate, but in this case by the smallest of margins. Sweet and spicy with dark fruits and hints of rancio. It shows it’s age well.

@cricklewood and @fiddich1980 have obtained DELORD vintages from the same era, some of them older. I believe @Nozinan may have one or more in his cupboard as well. I have tried a couple and look forward to trying more in the future. They are incredibly delicious. I’ve claimed this particular brandy to be better (more desirable) than 90% of the whisky I own.

@paddockjudge - thanks! I recently bought a Baron de Sigognac 10 so will tuck into that before buying anymore, but there are a lot of Delords about so will have a close look at a vintage in future. UK prices are very competitive compared to Scotch ...

@RianC, when they get past 20 years the development is noticeable. The fruits are darker and richer, the spices less piercing, better rounded and sometimes a bit of rancio to complete the balance. It is worth the extra coin to find something approaching 25 years or older.

@OdysseusUnbound

@paddockjudge It's a shame cognac/armagnac isn't priced more competitively in Ontario. Good brandy is amazing stuff, but I feel (rightly or wrongly) that one almost has to be a Bezosillionaire to access the really good stuff. It's sad that 90% of what we have access to is the mass-market stuff from Hennessy, Courvoisier, Remy Martin, and Martell.

I thought I would bump this thread in light of @OdysseusUnbound making mention of whisky allocation at the domestic level. This is a pic from 2017. The Laphroaig CS was sent to @Nozinan (because I knew it would be safe for decades, opened or unopened). Laphroaig 18 YO and the Glendronnach 21 YO were available at the open bar at a family wedding while the Signatory Highland Park is one of the worst whiskies I have ever tasted. I may never buy a Signatory again; I haven't since. The shelves in the background are located in the front room of my tiny house. Many of the bottles have been opened.

@paddockjudge That Laphroaig 10 YO CS was opened in May 2017. It is now one third full, so it has seen some activity in its youth. Interestingly it has seen only one pour in almost 3 years, almost as if it is waiting for you to visit...
