Bought a bottle of Bushmills 21 YO for £57 ($96) in Norway. Not sure if it would be a steal of a deal in the US, but it was here.

@FMichael, $60 for Tomatin 18 sounds more like a reasonable "market price." Next time I got into my local where they have it priced for $38, I'll probably tell them.
And there's a Woodmans in Sun Prairie? I had no idea! Must go. Ever since I discovered that each Woodmans has a totally different selection—and different prices!—I've been making it my business to browse them all. But I didn't know about that location.
Incidentally, I find that the one down in Rockford has the best prices overall. A'bunadh for $58. Knappogue Castle 12 for $29. Connemara CS for $48. Caol Ila 12 for $38. (Those are all prices I remember from my last visit, some months ago. Who knows what they have now.)
Riley's in downtown Madison might have the best selection (the only place around here for IBs, I think), but nobody beats Woodmans' selves full of OBs at pretty good prices. The beer selection is great too. Too bad it's not an especially pleasant place to shop!

I got Penny Packer Kentucky Straight Bourbon at Binny's for $15 plus tax. It had a $5 mail in rebate so my cost should work out to less than $12 total. For a bourbon that is shipped to Germany, bottled in a distinctive embossed bottle with an ersatz image of Lincoln on the label, and shipped to Chicago, I think I got a Steal of a Deal!

So I was in a local ABC store here in Virginia and as I was checking out I was looking at the back shelf of typically high end liquor. And there was a bottle of Glenmorangie Signet with a sticker price of $18.49!!! I really wondered if I was seeing the "." in the correct place. So . . . I asked, "Is that bottle really $18.49?" And the guy looked at it and said, "that can't be right," and proceeded to check it. Nope, it came up at $250.
His response was, "Glad I checked or I would have had to honor that price."
FOOL THAT I AM
In the future always say, ". . . and I'll take that bottle for $18.49." What is the worst they can do? Say no.
So close to a bottle of Glenmorangie Signet for a broken $20.

@Nock, was it a moral dilemma to which you responded correctly? Or the Hand of God trying to do you a favour? Probably the former.

Binny's is having a hell of a good sale on selected bottles right now. Their email suggests it's clearance for new fall stuff they're expecting. If I get a chance (i.e., if Yahoo mail starts working for me again soon), I'll paste in the list of discounted bottles. It's pretty tempting.
Binny's delivers to whatever states allow it, by the way.

@NozinanB Barely off the plane and you are in full character as 'Dusty Hunter, whisky sleuth and old bottle marauder'.

Bought a bottle of Glenfarclas 21yo for only £60, which I thought was a great price for such an old whisky.

Picked up a bottle of Laphroig 18 for $68.00 and some Jefferson's Reserve Single Barrel for $38.00

beuffboy, that does sound like a good deal for the Glenfarclas 21. That's not a bottle I scout when I'm out, but--and even despite the usual fair prices for the better-aged stuff from Glenfarclas--it sounds like a solid offer for a 21-year-old. Nice.
Update on the Tomatin 18 for $38 I mentioned up-thread: I had a small windfall of about that amount so I changed my (publicly made up) mind and went to my local to buy it.
It was gone.
I asked and it turns out they just got a single bottle of the 18 as part of their order on the 12, as a free bonus. And they apparently just threw a price on it. The gal working last night said she's actually the one who bought it, and she warned me "it's really expensive." I held my tongue.

Lagavulin 16yo for $56 plus tax. I haven't seen for that price in over a decade! I just hope the quality is still there.

Glenfiddich 18 yr for $70...Picked up the last 2 bottles on the shelf..

The Laddie Ten for $ 35 total. I saw a few bottles available after the online inventory of my local stores no longer listed any in stock, or even a line item for inventory. I was quite surprised today to see them being sold on $ 15 discount. I bought two.

@HP12 This past year, I bought a Macallan Cask Strength for $52, an Aberlour A'bunadh (Batch 21) for $60, four bottles of discontinued Johnny Walker Green for $40 apiece, a Linkwood 15 for $48, an Amrut Fusion for $47 and a Highland Park 15 for $50. Bargains like that are becoming increasingly difficult to find.

@Victor wow! It looks like MoCo has pulled Bruichladdich products from their inventory. Glad I picked up a bottle when I did . . . but $35 a bottle is a fantastic deal!

@Victor
that IS a good deal! It's half the price (if you counted the USD at par) of the LCBO. I have 2. One I picked up when first released (maybe a little cheaper than now) then another when there were 400 left and everyone was talking about how it was no longer going to be available (in case I met someone who absolutely needed one in the future). Now there are 113 in Ontario. 1 in Toronto.
Then I retried it in Calgary and it's not as good, in my opinion, as the Laddie Classic (I'm tempted to ask my brother in law to get that for me (it's about $60). Plus, he doesn't like it at all, so I'll be bringing it home with me next time I'm there ( 2015). So I'm well provided for.

Not sure if it's a 'steal' per say, but it is a very good deal...
Longmorn 16 yr for $50...From what I recall - most places sell this scotch whisky for $85 plus.

@Nozinan, C$73 Macallan Cask Strength. Thank you for discovering, harvesting, and delivering my favoutite single malt safely to me...not one bottle, not two bottles, but six beautiful bottles. Epic Whisky Run

I just saw two 1.75 lrt. bottles of Old Charter 10y for $43. I read it was being discontinued. Does anyone like this bourbon? Does anyone think this is a good deal?
10 years ago 3Who liked this?
@Benancio , Good bourbon! For me, a gallon of OC10 at $86 would be a quick pick-up; however, I'm in Ontario and that would cost me about $200, if I could find it.
10 years ago 0
@Benancio, as you've probably noticed on bourbon sites, Old Charter 10 yo has lots of fans. I've never had any nor seen it for sale. I have had Charter 101, which is first rate, and also Old Charter 8 yo, which is mediocre at best. $ 43 for a 'handle' looks like a great price for a bourbon which is well regarded and is about to become quite rare.

@Benancio, I'll take one if you don't want them both. Same mash bill as Eagle Rare, BT, Col. E.H. Taylor, and Geo. T. Stagg. A 750ml bottle is $34 and extremely difficult to find at the Liquor Control Board of Ontario....only 2 of 600+ stores currently have stock.

@paddockjudge
My sense is that the Mac CS is likely to be the best "steal" I will ever see, given the going prices at the time we found it.
I hope that every time you have a dram from one of those bottles you remember that I was happy to be able to make it happen for you....

@Nozinan, your name will surely become synonymous with Macallan Cask Strength whenever I pour a dram, after all, six bottles is a lot of pours.

Being in Québec, Canada, we have only state liquor stores and there is never a great deal For example, Ardbeg 10 is over 90$. So that is why I foud you all very lucky.

@paddockjudge, @victor, thx for the reinforcement. I went back and picked them up. I'll drink one and one will go into the collection. If it were legal I would mail you a sample Victor, again if you ever make it through Albuquerque looking me up, I have a sample for you.
