Littlemill seems like an unbelievable steal. Know any more about it?

DevD replied

@Sroberts86, Not much just that it's available in a store which is out of state and I was planning to ask a friend to pick it up for me since he keeps coming to California.

well if its a genuine Littlemill then get as many as you can. If it is an independent bottler then im sure it will be good and that seems like an awesome price either way. Chsnce to try whisky that isn't made anymore. Quite exciting I'd say and id be interested to see what you think as I haven't come across it before.

@DevD -- Considering I've seen an OD Littlemill 12 bottling for $64, I think your find is a good price.

I can find Laphroaig 10 for $39 at a local bottle store I believe this is a moderate deal because I read earlier in this thread that someone couldnt find it for under $50.

I can also acquire Glenlivet Nadurra 16 yr for $54 (non sale price) at the same bottle shop great price since the internet pricing can be over $70 even without shipping.

Local liquor store is in the process of moving and having a 10% off sale while the shelves are half empty at both the old and new locations. Picked up a bottle of HP 18 for $79 at the time. (Their regular price on it is already pretty low.)

Picked up a Yamazaki 18 at Binny's in Illinois for $90 this past May...alas, Binny's no longer has this bottle in stock. This price even beats Montgomery Co., Maryland (land of super awesome whisky prices) who has it for $118. An awesome bottle with a wide range of flavours and aromas!

@lmann86, the going rate in the US for Sazerac Antique Collection whiskeys is a steal anywhere else. And how much is getting a product worth that others want and cannot buy at all, because there is none available for sale within their reach?

@Victor Agreed. I realize from talking to people I meat in my line of work that I have access to a LOT of bourbon's and scotchs that most can't seem to find at all. Makes me never want to move! I seem to be in the perfect area for it. The BTAC and the Pappy Van Winkles actually makes it onto the shelves at times! This past summer I walked into two shops in one day and found that each place had 4 bottles of the Ardbeg Day Committee Release on their shelves! Can't imagine that happening many places!

@lmann86...just opened my Yamazaki 18 about a month ago and it is indeed awesome (and a unique profile that, to my palate, introduces more of a floral component than what I have experienced previously in scotches and bourbons.

The fact that the BTAC is actually able to make contact with an actual store shelf in your area, automatically makes it a steal...especially at those prices!!! Grab as many of the Stagg (or any of them) while (if) you still can!! If not for yourself...than for me!! :)

@Pudge72 just stopped in tonight... Nabbed an eagle rare 17 btac... They have two more Staggs, 6 Handys, and a Weller left. You suggest grabbing another Stagg?

@lmann86...in answer to your question (and to borrow a phrase)..."Is the Pope Catholic?" :)

The 2011 Stagg (a bottle in my cabinet, courtesy of a bottle trade with 'Victor') is awesome (very "luxurious" notes, including tobacco and leather, are present imho) and the Stagg seems to be consistently regarded as the #1 or #2 bottling of the BTAC each year. Stagg is one that requires water to get its full benefit (and it can handle a lot of it, with the 70%+ abv). If your budget allows, it would be an excellent use of $75.

This is the text of a comment about the Stagg situation in the Buffalo, NY area, which was posted earlier today:

"BUY THE STAGG...NOW... !!!! I am currently in the US and searching for a Stagg or 2. This is what I was told while in a Buffalo area liquor store yesterday, by the manager, when I asked about the Antique collection.

'We have 9 bottles of the Stagg none of which were put out on the shelves. Purchase price is $150 (which I gasped at) and we have one left. The rest are spoken for.'

Then later in conversation while searching for some other goodies, he discovered that there were actually, no Staggs available. We had a lengthy conversation about the BT releases. He was quite knowledgeable and told me that they have been trying to encourage BT to raise their prices. Due to the fact that there is limited availability and that their product retails at "bargain prices" (in comparison to High End Scotch I would have to agree with this statement) it has encouraged people to buy up all existing stock and resell on Ebay (akin to concert ticket scalpers). So based on this information I would say "if you see one buy one" as their rarity has just been dramatically increased by the two aforementioned scenarios."

$150?? that's twice what I paid! Don't think I would pay that much for bourbon,...hardly spend that on scotch! I could have bought unopened cases of it if i wished... Guess I will grab another...then I can drink one and save another for when the price truly rises! btw...sadly eBay no longer allows the sale of collectible liquor on their site.

@Pudge72 Wow...just looked at another larger local retailer's online site...Stagg is selling for $199! How can a store one town over sell for almost 300% more than another?! Feel bad for whoever is dropping that money not knowing it's available in a small local shop three miles away for 1/3 of the price!

I saw a Highland Park 18 for $85 that I'm going to go back and get. I've usually see HP 18's for $97. Not a huge savings but I'll take it!

@Reyzar Plaza Wine And Liquor in O'Fallon, IL is my local shop... best kept secret...which is good on a certain level...wouldn't want everyone to find out about it and then lose my ability to nab some rare releases at a good price!

@maltygirl, if you want HP18, get it. The price isn't likely to get much lower than $ 85. An average of $ 100 to $ 120 is more typical.

@lmann86...I'm actually really glad that eBay has stopped the practice...many fakes/suspicious products, and it removes an easy outlet for people who hoard something like the Stagg (but usually some high end special release Scotch) for the sole purpose of flipping them on eBay the next day at twice the purchase price.

@Victor...and the LCBO just bumped the HP 18 from $140 to $150 (the 12 and 15 have also gone up $5-$10 over the past couple of months as well). Don't know if this the typical LCBO shenanigans at work, or if HP is pursuing price increases.

It seems that if you are in the States and find HP 18 for less than $100 (and want it)...get it.
