@TpR, good for you, the VA system is pretty bad and I'm surprised they would do just a.bottle, must be the only one they have. I have a non-whisky special order for a case (six bottles), said it would be four weeks, it has been six and still have not got it.

@JeffC I've actually had quite a bit of luck ordering single bottles of good stuff. There are next to zero single malt drinkers in the small area i live in and all the clerks seem pretty baffled when i drop serious coin on whisky. They know me quite well and always tell me how they see me as an elite customer that they gladly bend over backwards for. All in all for being a state controlled thing I actually have a nice quaint relationship with a few of these ABC stores. I guess virginia had a single cask HP 31 (odd age) bottled for them. Strange things this state does. Goes for about 400...wonder if its any good...wonder what the hell they were thinking. Not that its a bad thing, just that it seems super strange to me. Its about the only thing like it available to order. Check it out...its in the regular catalog.

Walked into a scary liquor store tonight on a mission...and it was a success!! The building was a small shack the sign said "LIQUOR, BEER, & CIGARETTES". I found a bottle of Glenmorangie 15 (discontinued years ago) for $73 and a few bottles of Wild Turkey Rye 101 (also replaced by the 81 proof version) for $22!

I just found Ardbeg Corryvreckan for $60 and Uigeadail for $55 at The San Francisco Wine Trading Company. The owner said they got lucky with an amazing deal on a large quantity. I have not used them before but the owner was very helpful. Will let everyone know if I have any issues with getting my order.

I picked up a bottle of Talisker 10 for $45.99USD last night. That beats the best price I've seen by $11.

@TpR I've learned more about the Virginia Special Order procedure (if it can be called that). Sometimes, I think people may order something but then never pick it up so the product gets placed in the online inventory at whatever price point they think they can get. That may be why VA had a 31 year old HP, doubt it was made specifically for them.

Sheboygan Wisconsin - There is a liquor store called "Jakes" that was (maybe still is) selling Oban 18 for $95. Everywhere else I've seen it has been $140+. I picked up 2 bottles.

The best deal I've ever seen was in Jan 2013 on a cruise ship. They had 4 750 ml bottles of Crown Royal for 69.00. Had to pass because customs has a limit of 40 oz per person. Would have been a great deal if there had been 3 more people with me

@nickdemaster That's good whisky. It has gone for between 80 and 100 in Nashville. Great purchase. I have a couple squirlled away myself.

@FMichael That is amazing for the USA. I can get it for £37 which is $55 from Costco which is up fom the standard price lastbyear. The most amazing deal I have seen recently was Glenlivet 12 for £17.99 which is $26.88. This seems super cheap to me. Mind you, I'd rather have 1 x Lagavulin 16 than 2 x Glenlivet 12's.

@tjb I agree - Lagavulin 16 yr is far superior to the Glenlivet 12 yr no matter what the cost.

That said - the only "downfall" to ordering whisky from an online store is the cost of shipping - therefore it's a good idea to purchase 3, or more bottles (be it the same, or a variety) to get the most outta the shipping cost.

Not a "steal" per say, but a good deal nonetheless is the Glenmorangie 10 yr for $30.

Best lucky deal: Caol Ila 18 for €52,- and standard deal: Elijah Craig 12 or Four Roses SB50%, both very good considering the costs

Steal: JW Blue Label, although I would never consider buying a bottle, this one is the worst price/quality wise.

Buying a bottle of Uigeadail for $75 in Oregon felt like a steal to me, being that it costs $135 here in BC and for $75 I can't buy very many decent whiskies (Laphroaig Quarter Cask being an exception, which is cheaper than the 10 year here). Ah, more Canadian pricing complaints.

My brother, who lives in New Brunswick, just picked up a bottle of Highland Park 25 for me (I have to pay him back...). The price listed by NB Liquor: $196.97 (CAD). The price at the LCBO: $350 (CAD).

The average price according to wine-searcher.com: $288 (CAD). While it looks like you can buy it in the UK at a couple stores for around $210 (CAD), the price in New Brunswick is just a bit odd, especially when you consider that NB Liquor is has the 21yr priced at around $280 (CAD)...

It is a good thing I'm heading to New Brunswick at the end of the month for work!

I like a nice smokey kick with my mixers. I still swear that nothing makes a better whisky coke than Johnny Black. But lately I found a liquor store near my place that sells the Black Grouse for literally $10 CAN. Awesome stuff if you like a smokey flavour in your mixes, and it sells at less than half the price of JW Black.

One that won't be repeated I'm sure was an Aberfeldy 21 year for $65 last year. A store in Texas was clearing out stuff and priced it to move. I recently saw a bottle with a shelf price of $165.

OK. I was at Hi Time Wine in Costa Mesa CA last weekend and they had JW Blue for 139.00. I have read all of the reviews saying, it's not all that, the Green is better, not worth the price...But this was 100.00 less than what it goes for in TN. How could I resist? I am totally going to pwn some noobs with this whisky, and until that day comes, on the shelf it will sit.

@Onibubba, it's funny I'm beginning to think they may be reducing the price of the Blue Label in general! I have been seeing it here in Japan being sold for around 10,000¥ (about $100 US) recently. I just assumed it was because of a special bargain price but now I wonder...

Anyone else been seeing the JW Blue going for lower prices in your area?

@michaelschout I'm confused by your comment about being taxed on your Jonny Walker Blue Label. Did you cross the border with more than your allocated 40 oz? If not, no duty should have been applied.

Talisker 18 for 76$ (plus 10% tax) I haven't yet made the purchase, but, given the recent price increase, I think that this qualifies as a deal...
