Besides the Cooley I just tried, Thosop also released a Speysider. This Aberlour is no less than 27 years old. Hence it will take a 140 EUR bite out of your whisky budget.
The nose is creamy and very fruity. I imagine myself running around in an orchard between the apples and pears. But some tropical fruits shine through as well: pineapple and peach. A whole shrub of gooseberries and a handful of nuts. And all of this spread out on the recently polished oaken floor of a ballroom. Vanilla custard with brown sugar completes the sweet picture.
Let us stay in the ballroom a while longer, for this whisky does a Cha-cha-cha on your tongue! Very clean and frish on pineapple and loads of citrus, mostly pink grapefruit. Nicely sweet on brown sugar and gently seasoned with nutmeg and cloves. Wonderful balance with the oak wood.
The medium length finish remains spicy and fruity. In the end, it are the pineapple and brown sugar that hold out the longest.
Another bulls eye from the boys of Thosop. By now, you can almost buy their bottles without prior tasting. They are always top quality.
