I'm signed up for the Ardbeg Day celebration at Julio's in Westborough, MA. I'm really looking forward to it.

Ardbeg Day in Seattle is this Friday evening at MacLeods in Ballard. Looking forward to a fun event and some Ardbeg whisky. A great way to start the weekend.

In my county, Ardbeg Day lists for $ 81.63 tax included. I don't know yet whether listed stocks are pre-reserved however. We are usually at the low end on prices for Ardbeg. (eg sale that ended 5-29-12 sold Corryvreckan at $ 65.39 total; the non-sale corry price is $ 77.44)

Well it's finally Ardbeg Day! No events in Brisbane and I'm not going all the way down to the Gold Coast for a dram. So.. no "Ardbeg Day" whisky for me today. I may open an Ardbeg Ten tonight however, if I feel like it.

@systemdown Can't go out tonight, I think I'll just enjoy my vatted Sheep Dip 1990 which has a 25 yr old Ardbeg in it. A toast to those of us who can't go to an Ardbeg event for one reason or another!

My wife and I attended Ardbeg Day in Seattle. We had the pleasure of hanging out with @Evarees and her husband at the event. What a fun night. My initial impression of Ardbeg Day is that it falls somewhere between Ardbeg Ten and Alligator. It is a very drinkable whisky, but for me, it didn't have the "WOW" factor that I got when I first tried Super Nova, Corryvreckan or Uigeadail. Maybe that's an unfair comparison and don't get me wrong; Day is a very good whisky. It just didn't blow me away.

@lmann86 Incidentally, what's wrong with "just another Uigeadail"? Uigeadail's awesome! (if not, utterly unpronouncable) Only 7 out of 34 reviews here on Connosr rated it less than 90...

@jasonbstanding There isn't anything wrong with another Uigeadail it's just that I can buy Uigeadail for $64 so why spend $100 on the same thing. That's all I was saying. I bought a bottle of Ardbeg Day either way. Would never turn down a new or special bottle from them.

@maltster......I really wish we could post photos here so I could show you my scotch display shelf (most of my bottles are stored unceremoniously in my basement).....I have my wife's Darth Vader Steinbach nutcracker standing in the middle of my scotch bottles (currently the Ardbeg Day is on the shelf with him). In fact, most of my bourbon drinking friends refer to scotch as going to the "dark side".

So it's that time of year again. Perpetuum is out. Certainly a collectible as it is the 200th anniversary and all...but is it worth the $100? Reviews seem to indicate it's a good, but not great, Ardbeg. Anyone try it?

Ardbeg is certainly creating a stir again, hats off for the marketing team haha. In Holland, joining the Ardbeg weekend(!) gets you two tastings on 2 days and spending a night on the old fort Island Pampus just off the coast. We have a saying in Dutch: to lie before Pampus, which crudely means being totally pissed haha.
The Uigheadail btw, is a marriage of younger bourbon matured and older sherry matured. While this one seems to be a sherry finish.

@broadwayblue, Ardbeg Perpetuum is a solid performer, with an outstanding nose. The palate is representative and good, but the nose is the high point.

Is Ardbeg Perpetuum better than the very best batches of Uigeadail, Corryvreckan, or Ten? Not in my opinion, no. But Perpetuum is probably a little better than the AVERAGE bottle of Uigeadail, Corryvreckan, or Ten.

@Victor,

Thanks. That's what I've read elsewhere. I guess it comes down to one's personal feelings on the value of a whiskey's nose vs. taste. Seems to me a whiskey with a great nose but only average taste is a let down. But again, others may favor a great nose over a great palate...assuming you can only get one of the two from a particular dram.

I like the Perpetuum, highly drinkable. Imagine a ball of smoky vanilla ice cream that is melting away and add a dash of salt.

Is it worth the asking price? Well... the Corryvreckan is not really much cheaper where I am at, plus this is a limited edition commemorative bottling so I would say: "yes".

@broadwayblue, I am more palate-oriented too, but I have certainly come to appreciate a great nose.

As to Ardbeg Perpetuum having wine influence, there may be a little bit in there, but I really wouldn't have noticed it at all if somebody hadn't said that some wine-finished casks were used. I absolutely did NOT taste Perpetuum and say to myself, "Oh yeah, this is a wine-finished whisky." Frankly that is amazing to me. This is not Uigeadail-like, and certainly not Galileo or Ardbog-like. As the Ardbeg standard line goes, Perpetuum tastes to me much closer to Ardbeg Ten than to any of the others.

Tried Perpetuum at the SF Ardbeg Day event yesterday. I noticed more coastal, briny, oyster-shell flavors in it than the other Ardbegs. Probably more ash-smoke too. They did say it has some sherry finish (manzanilla, px, and olorosso) AND alligator casks too. Made it sound like it is a huge blend. Of course, no ages disclosed. I bought a bottle. Will see how it drinks at home over the next several months.

Wow, the EU price gougers have certainly latched on to this one.

It was released at the official price of AUD$169, set by LVMH. The store that went to had more than 10 six-pack cartons but they sold out over the weekend. I suppose it is just a matter of time before the AUS price gougers get on to this one too.

@Victor

My point of reference is the Corryvreckan. To me, it seems that the American oak influence is more significant in the Perpetuum despite the available info on the web saying that there is some sherry oak in the vatting.

@sengjc, I read about these outrageous asking prices for Ardbeg Perpetuum and I think, "Gee, maybe I should have bought those extra bottles of Perpetuum for $ 94 each when I had the chance."

But you know what?...that's just crazy talk. Most batches of Ardbeg Ten at half the cost (here) are almost as good as is Perpetuum. Some are better.

The crunch point comes, in the future, when Ardbeg Ten either: 1) is discontinued, 2) doubles in price, or 3) goes way down in quality. And I suppose that that day will come, maybe soon. For now I am happy with 1 bottle of the 2015 Ardbeg Day Perpetuum, at a relatively good price,...and hunting for the best batches of standard line Ardbegs at more reasonable prices.
