I'm not expecting anything amazing - it'll probably be a nice whisky though. Call me a cynic, but this just sounds like yet another NAS "novelty" or "collectors" bottling. I wouldn't pay beyond what the whisky inside is worth in terms of its intrinsic quality as a dram, minus the fancy label.

Agreed. My local whisky bar is doing something and I'm interested in the bottle....depending on the cost. I also am interested in their Ardbeg Lord of the Isles they had last time I was there. Hoping they still have it so I can make a low ball offer for it. But yeah I don't think Ardbeg Day will come to much, if anything.

The press launch in London is today so hopefully some tasting notes should be appearing soon.

@cowfish Ah fantastic. Please be sure to post a link to the tasting notes! Cheers

I hope it becomes available on there website. From what I've read I think it's only going to be available from the distillery and certain ardbeg embassies.

@Jason0142 From what we've heard at TWE it will be embassy and distillery only.

I am told one has to prove to be a committee member. I am, but how do I prove it?

@markjedi1 How does one become a committee member? I'd like to be one if possible!
My local whisky bar is looking into a bottle for me. If it's reasonably priced I'll grab it. If not then not.

@markjedi1 They sent you a welcome pack, so dragging something from that along should be enough. That or a print out of the logged in section of the website. I think the folks in the TWE shop's plan is to use common sense when people claim to be committee members, other embassies may vary :)

@ cowfish True enough, when I was at TWE last summer, they poured me a dram from the huge bottle of Ardbeg Alligator while they only had my word (which should suffice, of course :)). Guess I will have to dig trough my whisky collectibles to dig something up.
@SquidgyAsh simply visit Ardbeg.com, it is totally free. And I think I just read somewhere that a bottle of Ardbeg Day should be around £60 (but I could be mistaken).

If anyone's around in London (the English one) then I'll be down at TWE Vinopolis early in the day to see if anyone's mad enough to queue before we open (and take some piccies if they are) and grab some breakfast from Borough Market: blog.thewhiskyexchange.com/2012/05/…
Other embassies are available (but are obviously not as awesome): ardbeg.com/ardbeg/committee/…
@markjedi1 As far as I've heard the bottles should be £59.99.
@SquidgyAsh Is your local bar Helvetica? They're listed as the only embassy in Perth...

@cowfish They are my friend! And I just signed up as a committee member thanks to you and Markjedi1! Thanks for the help you two!!

Yeah, @thecyclingyogi points out that we already have Ardbeg Day at two of our stores in Montgomery County, Maryland.

They are doing a bunch of local Ardbeg Days at various cities in the US next week. I signed up for one.

@joshk , They have one scheduled in the Ritz Carlton in Half Moon Bay in the San Francisco Bay Area on June 2. I'll be there for sure.

Bugger, no Ardbeg Embassy in Brisbane! What the?! @SquidgyAsh - please let me know if Helvetica (or your other source/s) will have bottles for a reasonable price.

@systemdown No worries brother! I've already asked for a price, but I'll ask for them to set aside 2 bottles for me :D If it's a good deal I'll send it to you when I send the whisky samples!

@systemdown Just heard back from the venue owner and I've been informed that I can purchase bottles to drink at Helvetica, but I'm unable to purchase a bottle to take home....
Epic fail.

@SquidgyAsh Say what?! So... you purchase a bottle, and they keep it aside for you to drink when you come in? I've never heard of such a thing! Crazy.

They have it set up so you can buy bottles there and keep them in the bar in like your own whisky cabinet, but pretty much price wise what they do is charge you the shot rate times the number of shots in the bottle so quite often you'd wind up paying at least double if not triple or more the bottle rate.
I'm actually pretty upset since I can now see them trying to charge me the same thing for oen of these bottles in which case I can expect a $300+ bottle...
I'll keep you updated because I'm going to try and sweettalk us a couple bottles, but I'm not holding my breath so it's fingers, toes and eyes crossed time!

Is it as impossible to pick up Ardbeg Day outside of the US as it is to find it here?
It's so frustrating to see releases such this completely skip up here...

The folks over at Caskstrength have some tasting notes up for Ardbeg Day: caskstrength.blogspot.co.uk/2012/05/…
They also hinted on Twitter that this wouldn't be the only committee release out this year - there's also a Son of Alligator in the works...

I got the opportunity to sample the Ardbeg Day yesterday. It would take something for me not to love anything Ardbeg with sherry, but this release really impressed me. It had the best balance of peat and sherry the created a really integrated, balanced pour with good depth and complexity. I'm really looking forward to getting a bottle home and see whether I feel the same about it after having the chance to savor it over a period of time. I also really want the chance to compare it to some of my other favorite peated whiskies that have been finished (e.g. Signatory Benriach finished in Chateau D'Yquem, etc).
After this initial tasting, it's hard to wait for this weekend to be able to take home a bottle.

We will delight our palate with Cask No. 33.112 A Society Whisky from Ardbeg! Its tasting notes are described as tar & carbolic, seafood saltiness, lobster and chorizo, leather, and plenty of sweetness! WWW.SMWSA.COM

Have not been told the price yet.....I would expect/hope it would be less than $100

Anybody taste the new Ardbeg Day bottling? 56.7% ABV, no age statement, and finished in a sherry cask. Won't it be just be another Uigeadail? What're your thoughts
