That is a question for which I have an answer: 1967 40 yo Duncan Taylor Springbank. I tasted it once, and it is the only whisky I have sampled that I would rate at 99/100. It is relatively inexpensive for the question which you have asked: only $ 2,199 per bottle. A small dram of it induced Nirvana in me.

Brora 30 year old (preferably one of the vintages released between 2003 and 2006)

I'd go for the Ardbeg 10 Year Old 'MOR' cask strength. Can't beat 4,5 litres of Ardbeg 10 at cask strength. :D

...or if you meant we could have one bottle extra rather than just one bottle, I'd probably go for the Dalmore 50 too. Although I must admit I have no experience whatsoever concerning high end whiskies, so I couldn't say if this would be my best choice possible.

Well I don't know how everyone is so lucky to have tasted all those fine old bottles ! :) But even from my limited experience, among many competitors, I feel that some of the lower ABV corn and rye based bottles always leave me with the depth of a momentous experience, such as Sazerac Rye 18, Eagle Rare 17 Bourbon and Vintage 17 Bourbon. And though single malts are my daily drams of choice, the many fine malts I have tried, so far fall short of the Nirvana experience :)

Hmmm... hard to say. I have a relatively limited experience, but I would love a bottle of George T. Stagg... Highland Park 30... or Glenmorangie Signet. I have heard amazing things.

Glenmorangie Signet, I have had it at a local bar . Excellent , but I cant pull the trigger on the price of $199 USD

Having gone to the Universal Whisky Experience in Vegas last year and tasting all the high end bottles, I was most impressed with the new Bowmore 40 yo. I would take one, since only 50 are being sold.

@!jdcook ... what a great review and vicarious adventure of the Bowmore 56. Hey, they have it at theWhiskyVault for only 1,500 GBP. Here's what to do: gather up 24 of your friends and go in on a bottle ... this is really doable ! Wouldn't you spend 60 GBP for a moment in heaven !? :)

I believe I would head for a Gold Bowmore, just hearing the reviews makes me salivate.

Hmm... no strings attached?! I would have to go for the "Campbeltown 1919". A Springbank 51 years old. Distilled in 1919 and bottled in 1970 as "Campbeltown 1919". No more than 24 bottles were released. Only 3 of them are known to still exist today. Intriguing Single Malt Scotch!

@Cardinal...Signet is at the high end of my wishlist as well. My plan is to build up my cabinet and figure out what a proper amount for whisky expenditures would be on a monthly basis. I will then buy the Signet at some point and simply bar myself from buying whisky for the subsequent months thereafter.
For example, if you are comfortable spending $50 per month on whisky normally, buy the Signet when you know that your cabinet can get you through the next four months without another whisky purchase. Depending on the weather, and your personal whisky drinking habits, the end of spring (and the approaching hot weather) might be an excellent time to make a big purchase as your whisky drinking will lessen through the summer months. Just an idea...

Something not very over the top, but too expensive for me : Glenmorangie Signet.

Balvenie just announced a single cask 50 year old. Only 88 bottles will be available.

for me it'd be Gordon & Macphail's Mortlach 70 Year Old / 1938. Oldest whisky in the world and completely out of my price-range. Highland park 50 would be a close second for the whisky dreams, simply because I love their standard range whisky's.

Trying to pick just one bottle seems so hard! My opinion could change but as of right now I am with maltymatt in wanting the 50 year old Highland Park. Highland Park is probably my favorite single malt and have tried all their core expressions up to the 40 year old and many of their special releases and independent bottlings. Would absolutely love to try the 50 year and listening to Gerry Tosh talk about it on their website makes me want it even more. Plus the bottle is so cool!

One of no strings attached means it would have to be over the top. I find often older or "special" releases can be a bit underwhelming so it would have to be something I had tried. Things that I would love and have been lucky enough to try are the auchentoshan 1957, Glengarioch 1958, White and gold Bowmore but I think they all are eclipsed by the Blackbowmore. Not sure which release though as I have only tried one and embarrassingly Im not even 100% which one it was.

If you could have one bottle of any Single Malt Scotch with no strings attached, What would it be?
