Eilan Gillan is a French bottler with only a few releases to its name, including an Arran, two Bowmore, a Caol Ila, two Macallan, but also four Clynelish. This is one of them, a single cask that was distilled in November 1995 and filled in September 2006, so a bit shy of 11 years. It was colored nor chill filtered, but did get cut to 46%.
The nose is somewhat waxy, with flints, grapefruit, apples (skin included) and pear. To be honest, it is a bit simple, but far from unpleasant.
It arrives creamy, but somewhat light. The aromas of the nose return with a smidgen of spices and liquorice. Aniseed, too. Ginger. Touch of pepper. Typical clynelish, but ‘small’ if you catch my meaning.
The finish is medium long on white fruit and liquorice.
Nice, but not great, Clynelish. Thanks, Niek & Ilse, for this wonderful gift.
