We all know that the warehouses in Pitlochry contains quite some beautiful casks. Andrew Symington has amassed quite the collection in the past decades. This is a Clynelish from 2008. A teenager at drinking strength, created by blending to bourbon barrels, which yielded 448 bottles.
It needs a bit of time to breathe, to be honest. But with patience and some air, it opens up nicely. Becomes quite classic with a lovely waxiness, agrums and quinine. A hint of candy floss turns it surprisingly sweet.
The body is rather light, to be honest (the ABV has a lot to do with that), but is quite spicy. Peppers and ginger, liquorice and more pepper. The agrums shine through – evolves towards grapefruit, while it also sports a mineral side. Chalk.
The finish is medium long on citrus and peppers.
I confess, this is a rather simple Clynelish, but even those are good. In the summer of 2018 you could buy a bottle of this for just 40 EUR. Crazy, I know. Thanks, Benny.
