Do you remember Brachadair? This Belgian bottler made quite an entrance a couple years ago with three lovely releases: Braeval 1991, Arran 1996 and Laphroaig 1998, all single casks. But then all went quiet… until now. Patrick and his team have finally obtained an excise bond from the government and can now truly get into higher gear. This Clynelish was bottled two years ago already, but only now can it be presented to the public.

Grand creamy nose on butterscotch, nougat, grapefruit and poached pears. Live it to breath for a couple of minutes. Trust me, it gets even better. Hint of mocha, beeswax and burnt malt. Fir honey, almonds and flints. Werther’s Original. Stunning.

Good mouth feel and quite stury despite the rather modest ABV. Waxy and spicy on quinine, white pepper, ginger and liquorice wood. The fruit translates into pink grapefruit, lime and pear, but also a hint of mango and even pineapple. The nuts are present as well. Surprisingly salty note underneath this sweet onslaught.

The finish is long, bittersweet and simply marvelous.

Yup, Clynelish 1997… ‘nuff said. A bottle will cost around 90 EUR. Recommended!
