Clynelish 1997 is slowly but surely becoming legendary and I like to think it all started with a release that I helped select for The Bonding Dram. That one is still considered, not just by me, to be the best so far, so it is not that much of a self-fulfilling prophecy. This new release by Carn Mor was bottled at drinking strength.
Waxy nose on malt and candied fruit. Loads of candle wax. Hint of green banana and a slice of pineapple in its own juice. Mild pepper. Very accessible and pleasant.
Good body and spiciness. Ginger, white pepper, quinine, pinch of salt. Underneath a nice mineral side and loads of fruit. Mostly citrus, followed by apple and a single grape. Very drinkable.
The finish is wonderfully bittersweet, buy it might have lasted a bit longer.
A card players Clynelish, so tos peak. Despite the modest ABV, it packs enough of a punch. I find it more than good and again proof that Clynelish 1997 is grand stuff.
