The Nectar selected this cask and had it bottled by Andrew Symington's Signatory. It was presented at the Spirits in the Sky festival last November. This adolescent Clynelish is very, very pale.
The nose is soft and waxy on apples, sugar candy and a bit of grapefruit. Lemongrass and some earthy notes appear after a few moments. And then it is all about pears. Celery salt? Quite a bit of vanilla and a bit of pepper. The whole is very light, though.
Despite a medium body, it is quite oily. The sugar candy is gone. Or is it? The pears and grapefruit return for sure, but it is the spiciness that turns this into a good Clynelish. Liquorice, ginger, pepper, vanilla and honey. A salty edge appears. Nice.
The finish is neither short nor long, spicy on liquorice and ginger with some grapefruit zest at the death.
Nice Clynelish. Not the biggest, but far from bad. Yet I prefer Clynelish 1997.
