Clynelish 1997. That in itself should be enough to start you drooling. I will put two sister casks head to head, both from Berry Brothers. Cask 4050 (this one) was bottled in 2014 at 55,2%. Cask 4051 (coming tomorrow) was bottled in 2015. Putting these next to each other is going to be a pleasure.
Wonderfully waxy nose on stone fruit (mirabelles and cherries) and a dried apricot. Great minerality. Gravel. Vanilla and a spiciness so soft that it is almost not detectable. Beeswax and even some paraffin. Slowly but surely toffee emerges and it becomes sweeter.
It is creamy and round on the palate. First there is a surprisingly salty hint, before the vanilla and the dried fruit kick in. Something that reminds me of nectarine. Sweet malt and a pinch of cinnamon. This is absolutely great stuff. Delicious!
Truly long finish that leaves the mouth completely dry and makes you long for a sip of water.
May I confirm once more that Clynelish 1997 is absolutely brilliant? You can buy this blind without hesitation. Damn, good stuff.
