The bottlings from the German Limburg Dramclub come from The Whisky Agency. This Clynelish 1997 (here we go again… this is already my 15th Clynelish 1997) was bottled for the members of their club. As far as I can tell, it is completely sold out.

The nose needs a little time to show its true colors. But it is nicely fruity on sugared lime peel, oranges and grapefruit. Nice touches of toffee and beeswax. A little waxy, but less than I am used to from this vintage. Some grass and flints. Candle wax. Hints of almonds. Mildly salty touch. So far so good, but I did expect it to be a bit more powerful.

On the palate it is immediately fairly bitter like white grapefruit. Now it is very waxy, I must say. Spicy too. White pepper, ginger, liquorice, quinine. Touch of peat that allows for a nice smoky development. The salty edge reappears.

The finish is medium long on grapefruit and wood. Mildly bittersweet at the death.

Not the best Clynelish 1997 that I tried, but it holds its own. Lastly seen for around 90 EUR (which I do not find cheap, considering the other bottles of Clynelish 1997 I acquired in the last two years).
