In 2014 you could put this Clynelish from Cadenhead under your X-mas tree, for it’s the Christmas Bottling for Belgian importer The Nectar. I recently poured it at a tasting and it was very well received. It is very pale.

Delicious and creamy nose with lots of citrus peel, a truckload of vanilla and green herbs, some almond shavings in the back. But what stands out for me – and much to my liking – is a touch of pencil, both the shavings as the graphite. Wonderful!

On the palate I get sweet fruit – now also peach and pineapple and even a lost strawberry – but also grasses and barley sugar. The whole has a bitterness to it as if from quinine and licquorice. And then a rare trace of woodsmoke that offers quite some depth. Wonderful (yes, Mark, you said that already).

The finish is long, feisty on vanilla, citrus and woodsmoke. It make your mouth tingle for many minutes. Wonderful (alright, already!).

Wonderful (stop it!) Clynelish with a dirty edge.
