When the label on a bottle boldly states The Perfect Dram it has quite an expectation to fulfil, no? This 23 Year Old Clynelish was bottled by the German company The Whisky Agency. Buckle up!
Loads of oak and vanilla to start with, without the nose becoming too dry or too sweet. White fruit and some icing sugar. Gooseberries and kumquats. Melon as well. Slightly mineral and a bit waxy. Slowly but surely a coastal side emerges and a good dose of citrus is revealed. Nice!
The attack is peppery and powerful, with quite a bit of ginger and liquorice. The vanilla and white fruit return, but a great salty edge is there as well. Perfect continuation of the nose and typically Clynelish. Midpalate, the citrus rears its head and the whisky becomes quite peaty.
The finish is long with a bitter and grassy ending.
Textbook Clynelish that will have the aficionados smack their lips. Does not need water. Around 160 EUR.
