I confess, in the past few weeks I seem to have developed some kind of fetish for Clynelish. That’s not too hard as it’s such a good whisky. And through a friend in Holland I was able to get a sample of this 24 Year Old from Adelphi. Party!

Deliciously tropical nose on lemon, pineapple, vanilla ice cream (!) and paraffin. Sugard lime peel. Turkish Delight, green banana and coconut flesh in white chocolate. For a moment, I also get a small hint of baby shampoo, but it’s gone before you know it. Balsa wood with a hint of caramelized ginger. I’m a fan!

The body is oily, but less waxy than I am used to (or hoping) from Clynelish. Again tropical fruit, but now more apricots than pineapple, more oranges than lemon. A lovely sweetness kicks in from crème brûlée with maple syrup on top. Pencil shavings. Quinine. Ginger and mint. A soft spicy prickle. Lovely!

The finish is textbook Clynelish. Waxy, bittersweet, mildly drying on mint and garden herbs with some banana at the death. Even a tad candy-like.

Another grand malt from this rather modern distillery (built in 1968). Was around 150 EUR, but hard to find now. Thanks, Marcel!
