Any whisky connoisseur will tell you that we all buy Clynelish's to try and find that one magic bottle the recaptures some of the old Brora magic. So we'll see how we get on with this young on', bottle for the Norwegian Vinmonopolet, 1990-99.
Nose: Starts out very clean with a slight citrus'y and ginger tones on the nose. Perhaps with the faintest whiffs of smoke. Gets fresher and more fruity with time.
Taste: Very different, but keeps to the profile. Slightly metallic, old pencil, a bit of pepper and a there's slight medicinal character, thanks to a hint of iodine.
Finish: The metallic flavours diminishes, and becomes oaky, and a bit of malt appears, the smoke becomes more prominent. Finish is surprisingly long and warm.
Good, young Clynelish, nice summer dram. Easy to drink and quite enjoyable. A Brora, it ain't, but enjoyable, none the less.
