The Dalmore Constellation Collection Vintage 1969 matured for 36 years on American oak, then slept 4 years on a 30 year old Mathusalem oloroso sherry butt and finally spent 2 more years in an ex-bourbon barrel. The fact that it still has an ABV of 45,5% after 42 years of maturation makes me wonder if it had not been put to sleep at a higher ABV than the industry standard of 63,5%. I guess we will never know, for the brand ambassador who led the tasting, was not forthcoming with that information.

The nose is deep and rich and dusty, if you know what I mean. It feels somewhat old (well, doh!). I get a wonderful mix of stewed fruits with mango, raisins, oranges; the whole sprinkled with chocolate chips of the best quality. Hint of pipe tobacco and cocoa. Quite creamy with toffee and nuts. Very soft on the spices. Absolutely stunning nose.

It is wonderfully creamy on the palate. Silky soft yet feisty on pepper and cinnamon. The fruit kicks in immediately and is joined by a handful of nuts (pistachio!), peach and banana. Delicious!

The finish is not very long, but quite succulent and reminds me of pineapple on the grill. I did not see that coming.

Wow, this is the type of whisky that makes you go quiet. But the price tag does the very same. Around 20.000 EUR. Seriously? Yup. The people at Dalmore seem to be mocking us mortals, but they do put out some outstanding whisky. Glad I was able to try this (twice!).

@markjedi1 great review. Thanks for posting, now us connosr members can get a balanced view on the dram and not some gushing hype.

Even if you rated 100/100 it would be too steep for my modest income !

@Frost same here, sir! No way would I ever be able to spend this amount of money on a whisky like that. Just lucky I was able to try it at a tasting (which had 4 Constellation bottles as well as the King Alexander III and the 25yo and cost me 'only' 100 EUR).
