The Constellation Collection is quite unaffordable – and let me open the debate by stating that it cannot ever live up to the price – but nevertheless these are all fantastic whiskies as I was able to discover at the Spirits in the Sky festival in Brussels in November 2014. I got samples from everything we tasted at the time, to retry in the serenity of my whisky basement. First up is the youngest of the lot: a 19 Year Old from 1992, cask 18. It matured for 10 years on bourbon casks and then another 9 years on a port cask.
Sturdy and very sweet nose on orangettes, marzipan, plums and tobacco. Some cassis, but less than expected. Raspberry tart. Hint of ginger. Some gingerbread, say. This is truly delicious.
The arrival is powerful – of course – with loads of spices. Think white pepper, nutmeg and some saffron. But the cassis now takes the lead. I do not mind at all. Loads of almonds as well. Raisins and plums slowly join the fray. Blood oranges?
Wonderfully long finish on almonds, oranges and loads of cloves.
Alright, this is simply delicious, but 2.835 EUR? Give me a break.
