A few weeks ago, Asta Morris (the Belgian bottler Bert Bruyneel) released this 15 year old Deanston. I do not have a lot of experience with Deanston. This is only my sixth. But I do have some experience with good whisky. And this pale Highlander falls into that category.

The nose is creamy, almost fatty (which is a good thing). Baking butter and honey. A toast with a slice of baked apple. Mild hints of hay and humus. Autumn in your glass. Pleasant and softly spiced.

It remains creamy on the palate, but turn immediately pretty spicy (much more than on the nose) and candied. That means both the fruit and the dark sugar. Halfway through some fresh fruit emerges, like peach, pear and even some redcurrant. I also detect some ginger and liquorice, but also a pinch of salt.

Long, spicy finish that leaves the mouth relatively dry.

A veritable autumn dram, if you ask me. Not even 50 EUR, which is a very good price.
