Does the island have to be a desert? Something more temperate would be better, otherwise I might have to pass on the heavier whiskies in such a warm climate... :p

Its a fair point. I think we could go for something a little more temperate, not Islay though, there would be no shortage of whiskies there.

Well, if it were a desert Island, this would be my list (as of right now): Balblair 1997, Glenmo Nectar D'or (or the 80's Sauternes cask), Highland Park 18yr, Scapa 16yr, more Scapa 16yr.
Now, if this were a dessert island... I guess I'd just bring a fork & and spoon.

I guess the post's title may not make sense unless you are familiar with the BBC Radio 4 programme 'Desert Island Discs' en.wikipedia.org/wiki/…

How about 5 casks? Let's be pirates. That should be about 1,150 bottles, give or take some angle's share. I figure if you consume in moderation you'd drink about a bottle a week (two or three generous drams a day). At that pace you'd have about 20 years supply. My five would be: Laphroaig, Old Pulteney, Lagavulin, Aberfeldy and Ardbeg. I'd pul every dram from the cask so I'd be enjoying some well aged whisky near the end of my stay. Once the whisky has run dry (and not a day before) I'd lash the 5 empty barrels together to make a raft for my escape.

Been waiting for this question. Macallan 15 Fine Oak ; Yamazaki 18; Benriach Curiositas; Balvenie 21 Port Wood; Glenfarclas 15. Not very surprising but Macallan and Glenfarclas could be upgraded for something a little older. I thought at first that it was an easy question, but there's so much very good products.

As a newbie, I have two sets of answers:
Based only on what I have tasted: - Parkers Heritage Wheat 10 yo - Lagavulin 16 - Highland Park 18 - Evan Williams 'Binny's Handpicked' Single Barrel (2000) - Auchentoshan 12
Based on what I have tasted / what I feel would be amazing drams based on research: - Parkers Heritage Wheat 10 yo - Ardbeg Uigeadail - Old Potrero 18th Century - Glenmorangie Signet - Pappy Van Winkle 15 yo
It's tough to keep it to just five...

I've decided to trade a cask right before setting off. The dock is fresh out of Aberfeldy so I instead snag a cask of George T Stagg! The mere thought of a cask of it causes my liver to convulse and my soul to rejoice. A cask of GTS is beyond my imagination, when a bottle feels like a stick of dynamite.

Would you hold it against me if I brought my Toshans? All kidding aside, I'd probably bring some BenRiach, Ardbeg, Glen Keith, Greenore and Port Ellen. Oh and @Shaggy266, please have someone explain the Caps Lock to you (especially how to turn it off).

@Shaggy266...I'm with markjedi1 on this one...please kindly turn of the Caps Lock button on your keyboard. It reads like you are yelling, which I am sure is not your intention. Otherwise, I have really enjoyed your comments throughout the forum.

@Pudge72 ...sorry, I shouldn't be criticizing if I can't spell correctly!! :) Please turn 'off' your Caps Lock button.

Where are the Toshan? @markjedi1 . I anticipated you bring maybe at least 3 Toshans. I'm confused.

@JoeVelo, don't be. I would have those stashed away in a secret compartment, to share with the happy few. One Toshan I would certainly bring is the new Valinch (cask strength Classic). Affordable and very drinkable. A summer dram, perfect for the desert island :)

This is tough, Jean-Luc. I have nine whiskies in my top five. Anyway, here's what I'd pack:
Bunnahabhain 18, Glenrothes 1985, BenRiach 1995 15 yo PX Cask, Lagavulin 12 (2010), and Bruichladdich Octomore 02.1

Highland Park 18 Bowmore 12 Dalwhinnie 15 Glenfiddich 15 And last but certainly not least, a recent find for me, Benromach 10.
All decently priced, all accessible and all very drinkable. I can't imagine getting bored with any one of these, so with all five i'm sure i can keep going till happily ever after.

@Wodha I think the angel's share would be quite high in such a climate. You'd be looking at some serious accelerated maturation!

@LeFrog, @Wodha is so well prepared that he has probably already arranged for an underground storage facilty to be build on the island before he gets there. It is probably electronically climate controlled, too.

Whittling it down to a top 5 hasnt been easy, but i have got there in the end! I'd take the 12 year Yamazaki, which is by far my favourite of the bunch, so it wouldnt last long! Next up is the Laphroaig Quarter Cask, only just started drinking a bottle and have fallen in love with it, so that would be on the list as well! I'd have to have a bourbon with me as well, and that'd be a Four Roses Single Barrel, which has been one of my favourites since sampling it a while back. 4th would be an SMWS bottling, the one i've had already, being the 76.79 Sherry Fusion. And finally, a bottling i've tried once, and kept for some time untouched, the Ben Nevis 1997 10yr Port Wood finish.

Limiting my picks to what I have on hand my 5 Casks would be 1)Dalwhinnie 15yr 2)Longmorn 15yr 3)Laphroaig 10 yr 4)Aberlour a'bunabh 5) Knob creek 9y SBR.

@Victor I've name the island "New Islay" and yes, the underground bunker is nearly complete. It's the deployment of the 274 giant granite Wodha statues that has me concerned.

@Wodha your posts are always a delight. The latest is no exception. Are there any mysterious hatches on New Islay?

So if you were stranded on a desert island, but you could take 5 bottles of whisky with you. What would they be?
