It’s no secret that Dutch bottles van Wees gets its single sherry butts from the Signatory warehouses – logical as Signatory owns Edradour – but Andrew Symington from time to time decides to bottle one of these himself. This 10 years old Edradour was cut to 46%. After this one, I’ll try no less than 6 Edradours selected by van Wees at cask strength.

Wonderfully sweet nose that reminds me of Christmas. Raisin bread, Christmas cake, walnuts, almond paste, chocolate spread, balsamic oil, fresh thyme and a hint of oregano.

Sweet palate on the same as above, upholstered with hints of orange marmalade and cold coffee. Good strength, does not need any more. A sour note pops up, but the balance is maintained. Very good stuff.

The finish is medium long, satisfyingly seasoned on nutmeg and ginger with a hint of liquorice at the death.

Lovely single cask that really negates the former negative reputation – remember Edrasour? – of this distillery. That time is clearly in the past now. This will be put back on the table on 25th December, for it is a veritable Christmas dram.
