My first bottle of 'Scotland's little gem' Edradour. This one is highly rated by Ralfy.

Nose

Spicy with cinnamon and dried fruits.

Palate

More of the same on the palate, fruit cake, spices, a cereal note and a little oak.

Finish

Quite long and drying with dark chocolate

I'm not sure what casks have been used? But I'm guessing a mix of sherry and bourbon casks? Because it has a definte sherried character but isn't over-rich. I tried it with and without water and found water didn't really help it at all.

Overall a solid highland whisky with a rich but not cloying sherry cask influence. It perhaps lacks a little in complexity. Probably not one I'll buy again. I never quite warmed to it all the time I had the bottle open.

@Wierdo - Nice review. I've still got to do a review of this from the sample you sent. I've had a little pour and found it to be very 'pungent' - kind of yeasty with off-sherried notes. Not that it was unpleasant, mind, more just unusual and dense. I actually found I needed to add a good splash of water to get into it ... smile

Thanks for that. It's a bottle I've wondered about often but never felt confident to take a chance on. There's plenty on the shelf of a merchant in town - Edradour just isn't well known enough fore the typical Glen(insert ending here) crowd.
