At the whiskyfestival Spirits in the Sky last november, Andrew Symington offered me this sample and said I simply had to try it.

Great sherried nose on dark fruit, orange marmalade, chocolate, almonds, rum raisins, stewed rhubarb, maraschino cherries and pineapple on the grill. Boy, this is very, very good! If you add some water, it gets a dirty edge (which is quite pleasant!). A small touch of rubber and more chocolate are yours to discover!

The attack is very powerful. Nicely creamy. Very spicy from the start on chili peppers, cinnamon, saffron and a truckload of nutmeg. Once the spiciness fades a little (have patience), a lovely sweetness emerges. Again loads of dark fruit, but also some green garden herbs. A touch herbal with some orange zest in the background. A small bitterness for a good balance too. Diluted it loses some of the spices (but still in abundance), but it does become more fruity.

The finish is warm and wonderfully long, even with water.

This is a grand Edradour, mind you. Good swimmer too, although I prefer it neat. The best Edradour I have tried so far. Congrats, Andrew, I totally see what you meant when you said that I had to try this!
