The Dutch bottler van Wees released a whole series of single casks of Edradour in 2020, all of them at cask strength. Let’s put these head-to-head. This is a 9 years old from 2010, a single 1st fill sherry butt, at a strength of 56.8%!

This is another one of those sherry bombs on the nose, but with a twist. While the obligatory dark fruit like raisins and plums (and to lesser extent cherries) are present, the nose of this Edradour is dominated by origin chocolate and freshly roasted coffee. The hint of rubber and menthol add an extra dimension. This nose is absolutely great.

Good arrival, nicely sour versus sweet and spicy. Quite green, if you know what I mean. My only criticism: it burns. The alcohol is very present and not as well integrated it was in the sister casks (especially cask #391). Nevertheless, you can enjoy this without water and it’s quite good if you like this style. I do.

The finish is medium long, dark & sweet and suddenly shows some molded wood.

Another great Christmas dram, tasted in full summer for crying out loud.
