I tried this Fettercairn before at a tasting. It was my first encounter with this distillery, but the circumstances were not ideal (we had just tried a couple of cracker drams). So I took home a sample to try it again, in quieter surrounding.

The nose is soft and grainy. I get hints of citrus and sour apples, a lot of caramel and a pinch of aniseed. Some dried pineapple as well, evolving into pineapple cubes. Pleasant, but rather light and not very complex.

On the palate too, it remains light bodied. Oily and mouth coating, sure, but the tastebuds are hardly put to the test. Yellow fruit, a hint of coffee and some spices accompany the apples from the nose. A hint of peat, could it be?

The nice, lightly peated taste finishes in a bitter aftertaste.

I was not very fond of this at the tasting and today my initial assessement is somewhat confirmed. A good malt, do not get me wrong, but nothing special either.
