I was already quite impressed with the previous club bottling from the sympathetic whisky aficionados from Halle (Belgium), a Glenrothes 1998. For their second club bottling the guys and gals from Maltclan chose a 14 Year Old Glenburgie. It was distilled on 22nd July 1998 and filled in bottles in November 2012. It will be presented on the 27th January during their Hogmanay, the yearly open bottles event of their club.

I get a surprisingly fresh, slightly creamy and very tropical nose. Sweet on banana and coconut, but also pineapple on the grill. Quite herbal with dried grass and wild flowers, heather and ferns. Some stewed apples too. Graeffe sugar on a buttered brown toast. Soft, but delicious.

On the palate, a veritable peppermix precedes a truckload of vanilla and all the wonderful fruits from the nose. Despite the high ABV, I do not feel the urge to add water. Mouth coating and very warming.

The finish is medium long and remains very spicy until the end.

The perfect winterdram! Well done, Danny, Gerard, Jos, Marc, Stephane and Chris. Great selection of cask and a worthy successor to the first Maltclan bottling. Around 60 EUR.
