The Bladnoch Forum likes to bottle single casks. Let me put to head to head, cask 9804 and 9803. This one is 25 years old, bottled in 2009.

The nose is much lighter than the previous one. White fruit and crystal sugar. Slightly creamy. Vanilla and pineapple, Turkish delight. Something of lager beer too, but luckily not stale. Freshly cut grass. A dusty side, too. After a few minutes, it becomes a lot fruitier. Nice.

Despite the high ABV, it glides across the tongue. Almost no spices to speak of, but loads of vanilla and beeswax. Sweet is the key word. Midpalate, some spices do show up. Pepper and ginger.

The finish is medium long and sweet, warming your insides.

It would have been a pity to pour this cask into Ballantine’s or Teacher’s, as it is a wonderful speysider, not completely devoid of complexity. But it needs time to open up.
