GlenDronach has quite a few lovely things in their wood finishes series. This 18 Year Old was finished on a Tawny port cask, which will offer red fruit – I think. The proof of the pudding is in the eating, as they say. This one has a golden color with a pink sheen, which is no surprise.

The nose is sweet and wonderfully fruity, but I do not get red fruit per se. I get mostly kiwi, gooseberry, overripe Pink Lady apples and some sweet pears. Loads of caramel too (Werther’s Original) and a hint of dark chocolate. Mango? Raspberry? Yeah, if you look for it. Anyway, this smells wonderful and makes my mouth water.

It is nicely oily, almost syrupy in fact. The raspberries demand all the attention now, followed by some black grapes and oak. It has even got a touch of mint, which I quite like. This is feisty on spices.

The finish is medium long, warm and spicy. The oak has the last say and leaves the mouth dry.

Nicely sweet and dangerously quaffable GlenDronach. Around 75 EUR, which seems fair for an 18 year old whisky.
