Nose: This is fun! Burned sugar and very grapey, like a Brandy de Jerez. Almost a mix of dense rye and pumpernickel breads. Christmas cake spices, and thick, syrupy rum. All-spice, cinnamon, cardamom, candied fruit. Some red fruit and berries, along with an oxidative note. Mince pie and more grape.
Palate: Immediately apparent that it's not as expressive as it was on the nose, and also a little drying. The mouthfeel of a thick spiced rum, but much more grapey. Not the most impressive, especially compared to the nose. Virtually the same notes here, just more muted.
Finish:Back to something interesting, and it's more nice wood, rum, and very good chocolate and coffee found in a good, well-aged sherried whisky. The finish adds some complexity, and really brings it home.
