This Glendullan was offered during one of Bert Bruyneel’s infamous Wee Dram Master tastings. It is a 17 Year Old Glendullan, bottled at 65,3% ABV. This is my second Glendullan only. The first one was a lightweight. I wonder if this one will fare better.
Sturdy nose with loads of candied fruits. Banana, mango, peach, pineapple. Spicy on mint and camphor. Melasse? Reminds me a bit of rum. Or tequila. Crystal sugar. Jaffa cakes. Fresh orange juice. Very pleasant. With water, some warm vanilla custard with raisins kicks in.
The attack is a kick to the teeth. That was to be expected. Yet doable. The Jaffa cakes take the lead. Mint goes in persuit. The candied fruit closes ranks. Citrus takes over. It even turns a bit zesty. A lot of ginger and a touch of liquorice. This is very good, in fact! With water, citrus and vanille shine brightly.
The finish is quite long on honey and ginger, with loads of oak.
What a pleasant surprise. A warm Glendullan that stays true with water. Hard to find nowadays.
