Nose: Cinnamon, Christmas cake spice, cherries, toffee, raw nuts. There is a real waxy and almost smoky quality. Raisins, prunes in rum. Some vanilla and ginger. I added a drop of water to see what happened, and it released more fudge and chocolate, and turned things a bit more black-brown than red-yellow. More wood as well.
Palate: Nice and viscous, herbs and wood. Somewhat sour and almost 'off' wood and fruit. Cherries. Burned fruit cake. Spicy with leather and wood polish. Refined and bold. Doesn't swim.
Finish: In the far end and on the back of the tongue, some roasted coffee grinds (light). Herbs and the same as the palate. This is really interesting. It's a fairly coherent and balanced gem, despite being perhaps a bit simple and having a few rough patches. Still very good.
